Crashing Companies

The music streaming site Grooveshark was taken down "without warning" last week (although people had been sorta predicting it for a while). The vast majority of the music was unlicensed, so essentially it was nothing more than a streamy, more modern equivalent of Ye Old Napster.

I think the RIAA is now in the process of suing its corpse. I had lots of good movie music (and other shit like wrestling themes) playlisted on there so I'm a bit annoyed, might not be able to find some of that elsewhere

Josh Greenberg, Grooveshark's co-founder now found dead at 28. http://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2015/07/20/grooveshark-co-founder-josh-greenberg-dead-at-28/

Why is this posted in a thread about legally-created entities rather than CEO thread about humans?

SC

Because I'm quoting the previous post, the current story ties in with the previous story. And as I have previously pointed out to you, I'm relatively new to all this forum posting and some of us are not adept at cross-quoting into different threads. Feel free to report Mr Greenberg's demise over in what you perceive to be the correct one, bless you and God Bless Americocd.

Sorry, I'm a bit tetchy this evening.

AAC Holdings shares on Tuesday suffered their worst plunge ever after the company said its former president had been indicted on a second-degree murder charge.

The indictment relates to the death of a patient in 2010 at American Addiction Centers, to which AAC is a parent company.

He's not just the former company president, he's a client!

Playboy (i.e. Playboy, Inc) will no longer be publishing nude photos. What in God's name is their business model? This has 5 years swirling into bankruptcy written all over it.

At this point wouldn't that be like Hitler trying to soothe his conscience by saying "anyone wanna go out and get a bagel?"

Walmart closing 269 of their stores

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-35328098

I hate shopping at Walmart and only go there if there's something I can't find elsewhere.
It's one of the few places I know that sells slippers and handkerchiefs all year round.

Ovation Foods that own Hometown Buffet, Ryan’s, Fire Mountain, and Old Country Buffet have closed 74 of their restaurants.

I'm surprised the Old Country Buffet near me wasn't closed sooner. I've never dined there, but I've heard terrible things regarding the hygiene there.

Sears/KMart to close 50 of their stores across the US.

There have been times when I've got really good service through Sears, and other times it's just been total crap.

Here's the list of stores closing http://mypersonalshopper.net/full-list-of-sears-kmart-stores-closing-what-is-next-for-sears-not-what-you-may-think/

Time for the Guardian to cut costs and move out of London, plenty of office accommodation in Bradford. They'll save a fortune and be culturally enriched.

I'm not sure if there is a Demolition Thread, if not perhaps there should be.

Anyway, it is a sad day in Didcot as three of the iconic cooling towers of Didcot Power station are due to be blown up in the early hours of tomorrow morning. Expect thousands of people to turn out in spite of RWE Npower's killjoy efforts to stop people watching.

Until last year when Didcot A was decommissioned, the six towers, as well as being a landmark for many miles around, were much-loved "cloud factories"

Edit to add - that is bloody annoying. I have posted images from Geograph often before without those crappy labels appearing and ruining the photos. I have contributed to the site myself and disapprove of this new development.

Department store Kohl's have announced that they will be closing 18 of their stores by the end of this year.

They have over 1,000 stores nationwide, so it's not a huge number in comparison.

I would rate the quality of their clothing on par with M&S when they were at their best.

In December 2015 Valeant Pharmaceuticals CEO J. Michael Pearson was hospitalised with 'severe pneumonia' and his return was uncertain. Return he did, maybe 6 weeks ago, but is now going on permanent leave -- not for medical reasons, but for business-related ones.

"Valeant Pharmaceuticals on Monday announced a series of management changes, including plans to replace J. Michael Pearson as chief executive, in another striking turn of events for the embattled company. The company also said that the activist investor William A. Ackman, whose hedge fund, Pershing Square Capital Management, is Valeant’s second-biggest shareholder, would be joining the board. In addition, the company said it would restate some of its earnings and asked Howard B. Schiller, a former chief financial officer, to resign from the board, accusing him of “improper conduct.”

Valeant's stock was trading at $200/share 6 months ago. Closed around $29 today.
