I was just reading a Sohu article about his life a couple of days ago. He lost nearly his whole family in the massacre, raped and murdered in front of him. Didn't tell his daughter about it until 1997. He had been in frail health for a while but I wonder if he was a victim of China's covid surge.

Ge Daorong dead at 95. He was one of the oldest living Nanjing massacre survivors. The oldest ones are Wang Yilong (王义隆, 99), Wang Changfa (王长发, 99), there are 47 left and around 16 or 17 of those are over 95.

I saw a lot of documentaries about The 1951 executions in Albania from where 22 innocent people were shot, among them were only two women, one was Sabiha Kasimati (Wiki)

 

The other one Didi Bicaku (Wiki), she escaped and entered the dungeon from where she survived the massacre, she is still living today at 98!

She is also the niece of Aqif Pasha Elbasani!

There's been a load of Long March, WWII vets dying since Christmas too. Only three long march vets died between July and 21 December, six between December 21 and January 17. I recall twice the normal amount of Chinese WWII vets were dying at the start of January. 

 

When Shi Ping and Feng Zigen survived (or "survived" with tubes going into them for the rest of the weeks or months they have) it, the news said they had it. In China it's only covid when you survive long enough to get discharged, otherwise it's "natural causes", "a lung infection", "illness and failed treatment" or something else.

Edit: Taroko indigenous woman Iwal Tanah (1931-before or in May 2023) is Taiwan's last living comfort woman out of the 59 known.
