Too bad she'll be mostly remembered for the rather sad, pathetic sight of repeatedly demeaning herself for Vince McMahons amusement in a bunch of execrable and not remotely funny segments

Thankfully due to the PG rating we'll be spared any of the worst excesses when the inevitable tribute montage airs on Raw

Be it bad taste or not, and some of the skits she was involved in were cringeworthy, it's not too much of a punt to suggest Mae made more cash in the past 15 years than in the rest of her life.

Oh easily. Jerry Brisco made a lot more money rolling around in his skidmarked pants and having garbage brawls (in both senses of the term) with Crash Holly than he did through being a Hall of Fame tag wrestler. Duthty made more money in his two-year run "wiff dee polkee dots" than he did through 15 years of headlining in Georgia and Florida.

Also. fucking hell, Daniel Bryan is over live. If the guy could draw a single dollar in PPV revenue he'd be fucking dangerous.

I'm beginning to think that modern-day wrestling is a metaphor for something...

You'd think so...

Just after one minute in:

Shows just how detached from reality WWE is, why do they think anybody wants to be reminded of that?? Suppose at least we were spared her getting out her "puppies" at the 2000 Royal Rumble

Indeed, further proof (if any were needed) that wrestling is not a good career path for women

That was what disturbed me each time I'd google her name to get a health update. Right at the top of the list would be "Mae Young puppies"

My opinion on the Mae Young thing is.....

I thought all the stuff was funny at the time. Many people did. I think a 77 year old woman has the right to decide how she wants to spend her "retirement" (or non-retirement) and if she wants to get power-bombed through a fake table by a big guy probably at least twice her weight and one third of her age, and give birth to a "hand"........... and bare her breasts live on pay-per-view television at one of the WWF's "big four" events, the Royal Rumble, that's her choice and I don't think she was "humiliated" at all because she knew it was all for laughs. If you found the hand thing hard to watch, well, that was the point. It was shock/gross-out humour. A bit near the knuckle, definitely but it's not like they did that every week.

That's all.

Channel 4 didn't see the funny side of her bearing her 'breasts' (they were actually prosthetic), they opted there and then to terminate their contract to air WWE programming. Well done Vince!

Personally I just found the Mae Young stuff sad, puerile and desperate, another example of Vince having people demean themselves simply because he can. Exactly how did the sight of an elderly woman giving birth to a mannequin hand, showing her puppies etc benefit WWE in the long run???

Do you remember Val Venis being circumcised by a Japanese mob using a Samurai sword? That made Mae's tits seem like a walk in the park.

Not really, for one you couldn't actually see anything, and furthermore it was revealed the following week that Kaientai had been 'foiled' courtesy of Venis' 'friend', everyone's favourite wife-beating porn star John Wayne Bobbitt

Katie vick was the pinnacle of McMahon's debauchery , i heard while they were filming that a funeral was going on next door .

When it comes to trying to select the most repugnant or just downright tasteless segment or storyline that McMahon has produced, you really are spoilt for choice. For starters there's the Big Boss Man mocking the Big Show's supposedly dying father, the Muhammad Hassan character and related segments (the hooded 'terrorists' attempting to garrotte the Undertaker was surely the low point), the shameless exploitation of Eddy Guerrero's death, Kurt Angle threatening to rape Sharmell, Trish Stratus being forced to strip to her underwear and bark like a dog (Linda McMahon's political detractors had a field day with that), Kerwen White, and most recently, CM Punk and Paul Heyman mocking Jerry Lawler's near-fatal on-air heart attack. The list goes on and on and on...

The Kerwin White gimmick was pretty awesome and very un WWElike since it was pretty accurate social satire on the mindset of modern white supremists.

Didn't do anything for Chavo Guerrero's career

Anybody remember 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper smashing a coconut on Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka's head?
