REALLY sad, true pioneer, the first Lavender Country album 49 years ago was brave and ground-breaking, being a full-on gay country collection with titles like Cryin' These Cocksucking Tears and Back in the Closet Again

Stan Hitchcock was one of the founders of Country Music Television, or CMT. He also headed the Nashville operations for the cable channel for nine years until it was sold to Gaylord Entertainment.

In his earlier performing days, he signed to Columbia Records, but failed to find much traction as a recording artist. He fared slightly better after signing with Epic in 1967, including his biggest hit, “Honey I’m Home” that notched #17 on the country charts in 1969.

Stan Hitchcock authored a book in 2009 called At The Corner of Music Row an Memory Lane about his life and country music. Hitchcock passed away on January 4th. He was 86 years old.

Australian country "legend", Sheik of Scrubby Creek Chad Morgan deserves a mention here. Not dead yet, but he's been rumored dead many times since 2008, has looked quite frail and decrepit for more than a decade but seems like he's still performing. He's 90, two months older than Willie Nelson.
