Toast 14,653 Posted August 14, 2018 Bugger, was Inside No 9 on there again? Haven't seen all of those. Trouble with all the old series you mention is I've seen 'em. Back when there were only 3 or 4 channels and no internet you tended to watch all the good stuff. Agree about House Of Cards. "You might think that, but I couldn't possibly comment". Brilliant and unforgettable.

Brilliant and unforgettable. Yeah, few months back - was sure it was on one of those archive year long stays but must have just been the 30 days, damn. And yeah, the original is the best. I like how his villainy (as opposed to political scheming) only shows up by slow degrees and by the time its out right murder the audience has been suckered in to quite liking Urquhart. Whereas Spacey played the same role with too much knowing vaudeville sneering at the audience imo.

Toast 14,653 Posted August 20, 2018 It's all about what you want to watch at the time, isn't it? I had the Netflix free trial for The Crown. Then having missed S1 of The Handmaid's Tale, I took advantage of a £1 offer for one month of NOW. When I went to cancel, they offered me 3 months for half price, so I though, yeah might as well. Keep forgetting to look what's on though. I want to watch The Assassination Of Gianni Versace again, but that's on Amazon.
charon 4,937 Posted August 20, 2018 Showbox toastie, Showbox. Up to date ad free apk link in techy thread last page or so. And I think I said, the Cumbercunt vehicle Patrick Melrose is fucking great after the first episode. Hugo Weaving is magnificent and a good turn from Herr Starr from Preacher as Weavings best mate. Cheers Charon, I'll give that a go. Good cast. I should be able to understand what that lot say. Oh, Pip Torrens, yeah, he was very good as Tommy Lascelles in The Crown. En Passant 2,858 Posted August 20, 2018 It definitely wasn't on mine and as Toasty will probably attest (assuming she recalls) I'm not much of a Royal fan in general I did however watch it, and didn't feel the need to bin it after half an episode as I'd expected to. It was really quite well done and far more interesting than I'd thought. Lets put it this way, I also watched The Night Manager, which I thought would be right in my wheelhouse, spies, undercover ops, Hugh Laurie as a drug lord (edit arms dealer? shows how much i cared...) no less....written by Le Carre and he was on the screenplay too iirc, so not, in theory, butchered from his original. I detested it. Every single trope in the book maxxed out. You just can't tell. Well, I can't it seems. without checking on IMDB Torrens played a slightly pompous upper class barrister in one of those Waking the Dead / Silent Witness series. He carries that off easily too.

msc 17,648 Posted August 20, 2018 Watching Stiff at the BBC, one of the BBC4 music collection things. This one of bands from that label. Anyhow, bit tasteless to lead in from the titles with Ian Dury... A bad joke that makes Mrs Msc laugh is so rare it needed shared...
Toast 14,653 Posted September 15, 2018 Bodyguard. I'm enjoying it. I can't understand why people find Keeley Hawes so sexy though. Never got that. And the scene where she stuck her hand into her knickers was grim. Robb Stark doesn't seem to fancy her much either, but at least we got to see his arse again. msc 17,648 Posted September 15, 2018 She has a bit of a school headmistress about her to me. Actually, come to think of it, for some, that might explain why...

Toast 14,653 Posted September 21, 2018 I've just binged Killing Eve. I loved it! Violent in a comic book sort of way, lots of black humour and not to be taken seriously.

She's a real chameleon in this. Should have got the Emmy nomination IMO but I guess they preferred to tick the diversity box. Although Sandra is very good too, as is Fiona Shaw.
