That album cover seems to be heavily influenced by Michael Jackson. Or is it the other way around?

Its from 1967..

I was talking to someone today and mentioned Neil and he said he was a right bastard...

So, to add balance, here's another pioneer who died on this day in 2006, Syd Barrett...

William of Orange, Who saved Holland from Spanish occupation was shot today in 1584.

This "Father of the Fatherland" leaves his marks heavily on the Dutch culture, examples are:

The Dutch national anthem (Wilhelmus) was written in his honor,

The members of the Dutch throne are decendents of his,

Clearly people here must have seen the big amounts of Orange clothing worn by fans during a football match against Holland.

Another William of Orange is quite popular here at this time of year, lots of orange regalia on display!

This day in 1403 saw the demise (execution) of the 1st Earl of Worcester, one Lord Percy...

Blackadder_lord_percy.jpg

No, not that one...

It also saw the passing of Rumpole (Leo McKern) in 2002 (7 years ago! I'd have said 4 at most...) and Ulysses S Grant in 1885...

Strangely, I have stronger memories of his death in the news, when I was 4, than John Lennon, who died over four months later...
