It was a wrap for documentary film maker John Grierson who died 45 years ago, aged 73.

CQ_2000-0096.jpg

Credited with coining the term 'documentary', and considered the father of British and Canadian documentaries, the Grierson awards are named in his honour.

This is one of his most famous productions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmciuKsBOi0

Edit: Actually, he didn't produce this but provided the narration. Full version - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7SD6qt0EFI

580 years ago James I of Scotland was assassinated aged 42, during a failed coup, led by his Uncle, Walter Stewart, Earl of Atholl.

During the first 18 years of his reign, from the age of 12, he was held hostage by the English, for whom he fought against the French, which made him unpopular in Scotland as Scots were fighting with the French.

Ritchie died 7 years to the day after another Stoke City, legend, Sir Stanley Matthews.

Despite there being more than a quarter of a century age difference, Matthews and Ritchie played alongside each other at Stoke.

Like Ritchie, Matthews also had two separate spells at Stoke.
