Gen. Thaddeus Kosciuszko (Andrzej Tadeusz Bonawentura Kosciuszko) died this day 200 years ago (71).
He was a Polish war hero and instrumental in the American Revolutionary efforts.  For that reason he has a statue in my home town of Detroit, MI (pictured), and it's in a high traffic area so I've seen it 'more times than Carter has liver pills'.  Of course Detroit--and more significantly the Polish enclave city within a city, Hamtramck,--had quite a notable Polish population.  Hopefully no one is offended by his statue's presence and it doesn't get torn down (SMFH) for another 200 years.

Thought I'd get in before everyone else. 4th February 1983 saw the death of Karen Carpenter.

Here she is, aged just 18, in her first television performance from 1968. Funny thing is the clothes she wears in this don't look as ridiculous as some of the stuff she wore in the 70s and 80s. Clip is only about 80 seconds long so those that don't like tem, you don't have to suffer too much.

Pope Boniface II, who was only Pope for 2 years, died this day in 532 A.D., or 1485 years ago (age unknown).  The 'A.D.' is only because of him.
During his brief Papacy, Boniface changed the numbering of the years in the Julian Calendar from Ab Urbe Condita (based on the founding of Rome) to Anno Domini (A.D.), based on the birth of Jesus.

That IS kinda interesting to me.

Spent a bit in the last few hours trying to find out over one of his bulbs that has meant to still be in use (112 years maybe?). Totally unrelated searching re his death.

Heard it was a bamboo filament, but still not sure if it was. There is a wiki page for the bulb

And isn't it interesting that President Drumpf has decided to release JFK govt documents on this, the 25th anniversary of Garrison's death.  It's impossible for that to be coincidence.  I'm positive it's meant to be a not-so-subtle slap in the face to Garrison's work on the matter.

(Edit: Thus, the release of govt documents meant to vanquish conspiracy theories creates its own conspiracy theory!)
