One for the Scots today, David Bruce (King David II of Scotland) died this day 645 years ago aged 46. He was married at the age of 4 to an older woman (she was 7) and at the age of 7 ascended to the throne (presumably with a step ladder or some other assistance).

King Ethelbert died this day 1400 years ago. His introduction of a complex system of fines can be seen as the genesis of the traffic warden.

"Ah nah mate, come on now, the horse was only there for 5 minutes whilst I popped into the apothecaries for a quart of leeches..."

"Rules is rules and you have blocked the passage of the London to York Express"

"FFS you officious git, the double yellow line isn't even visible under all that horseshit!"

"There isn't a double yellow line sir, they haven't been invented yet. There is however a clear sign on that wall, 'No four footed transportation to be left unattended between the hours of 07:00 and 10:00 Mon-Fri'"

"Bollocks"

"The fine is reduced to 10 groats and a chicken if you pay before the 10th of next month, however failure to pay within the alloted time and it's 2 days in the stocks for you."

Yeah, I was momentarily at a loose end. Sue me.

AIUI, he was the guy who found out that psychologists can be trained to start salivating when they see a dog.

Jane Russell died 5 years ago, on February 28, 2011. She was 89 years old.

She was an actress, sex symbol, Monroe's BFF, ultra religious freak, self proclaimed bigot, and alcoholic.

It's hard to believe that in between all those reruns going on to this present day, the series M.A.S.H aired it's final episode today thirty-three years ago.
