I count myself among those, but Turkic literature and culture is one big hole. His Wikipedia article describes a many-talented man.

Donald Campbell died today in 1967. It was my Mum's 21st birthday so it always gets wheeled out.

Bless her she's 70 today and having the same problems with speed and water that he did. At least she hasn't died running to the loo mind!

10 years since the death of Merlyn Rees aged 85. As SoS for Northern Ireland he unbanned the UVF to encourage them to peaceful ways but they reneged and he banned them again - lessons to be learned!

You need to put the date not 'this day' cuz if by this day you mean tomorrow it's still today here you fish-eyed fool.

20 years since the death of François Mitterrand on January 8, 1996

Mitterrand is, of course, notable for being the first hit in the history of DDP

He is also known in some circles for being the President of France from 1981 to 1995

40 years since the death of Mao's right hand man, Zhou Enlai aged 77. His countering of some of the excesses of the Cultural Revolution (whilst still believing in a totalitarian state) made him a hero. There's a lesson there, if you want to be seen to be good,be slightly less bad than your counterparts.
