Penguins defenceman Kris Letang suffers a stroke

not career threatening (let alone life threatening), but seeing as this is his second one, he’s worth keeping an eye on in the future

Steve Wochy will be 100 on Christmas Day. Second NHL player to make it to 100 as far as I know (after Al Suomi) and looked great around October:

He was quite the cult pick in the 2015 DDP. LotM, hasn't been picked since 2020.

Curt Lindström, Swedish ice hockey coach who coached Team Finland 1993-1997 to Finland's first Ice Hockey World Championships Gold in 1995 has been diagnosed with polyneuropathy. Unable to drive a car anymore but can still walk short distances without assistance.

Curt Lindström update, one year later:

His illness isn't progressing as fastly as I thought but he's now slowly becoming blind and losing his ability to walk.

early reports that Bobby Hull has passed away.
a storied hall-of fame player, Stanley Cup champion, voted as one of the best 100 players in NHL history, and lots of hardware and all-star appearances to show for it.

outside of hockey he was not particularly known for his humanitarian efforts or general good conduct.

DDP obit punt Mike Sertich, B-list ice hockey player and coach, here looking a little roughed up by his pancreatic cancer treatment, but not at death's door yet:
