With The Guardian looking to expand Australian readership a lot of the above might be able to get qualifying DDP Obits when they otherwise wouldn't in the past.

It turns out that former Australian newsreader and This is Your Life host Roger Climpson is still going. I knew he had cancer some years ago but he must have defeated it:

Another one I thought of is sports newsreader and race caller Peter Sharp who must be well into his 80s by now:

One for deadpools with less strict Qualifying obit criteria (don't all go looking at Maryport all at once) but an Australian columnist called Jack The Insider has Stage III bladder cancer. I'd assume The Insider isn't his actual surname, but then, it is Australia.

Insider would be his surname and The his middle name.

Quick research shows surprisingly that Insider IS his surname, but that his real first name is Idliketoget.

It turns out they were both wrong. It was blood cancer: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-09-29/max-walker-died-of-myeloma-not-melanoma/7888012

I saw a few days ago that Ernie Sigley (apparently he's a TV presenter and huge in Australia) was "seriously ill". Well, now it's come out he's got Alzheimer's, and the Daily Mail are covering it for future reference.

Thanks for that.

"apparently he's a TV presenter and huge in Australia" - More or less. He hasn't been on TV much in a long time. I have never really watched him but it probably depends on which part of Australia you live in. He was doing Melbourne local radio more recently. He's definitely a household name though. He's most well-known nationally these days for his comedy/music work with Denise Drysdale on the cabaret circuit.

Any of our convict comrades hear anything about Ross Higgins these days?

No, he is never mentioned in the media. Don't know what that may say about his state of health.

Well, they say kind things now he is dead. He was 85/86 (depending on source). http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-10-07/kingswood-country-star-ross-higgins-dead-aged-86/7913758
