In breaking news: legendary Australian entertainer Bert Newton has been rushed to hospital.

In reality it is a bit of a tease story as it seems he is over the worst, but he is someone who has had multiple serious health issues over the last few years so one to watch.  Absolute household name in Australia.

Hospitalised again:

Not a tease at all, I think.

Yes, will be a huge one down here when he goes as he has been on television for decades on various shows and is the last of the "big three" from the wild, early (mostly live) years of television in Australia, since Graeme Kennedy and Don Lane are both long gone now. It willl be the endof an era when he leaves.

Breaking news: Australian football legend and long time "Hooroo, Mate" thread favourite, Lou Richards, has finally died! Louie the Lip was 94.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-05-08/collingwood-champion-lou-richards-dies/8507900

Even though he was a Collingwood bastard, I'll miss good ol' Lou. There aren't many characters like him around anymore.

Some comments on Lou:

"... AFL chairman Mike Fitzpatrick said Richards had exuded "a profound and enduring influence on our code.

"He became synonymous with Australian football and the larrikin streak that often characterises our game," Fitzpatrick said.

"He never took himself too seriously and revelled in the opportunity to have some fun and to add some colour to the debates of the day.

"Lou has enriched our enjoyment and love of the game in so many ways, over such a long period of time."

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire said at the time that "without Lou Richards this industry would just be a local football competition going nowhere.

"This guy turned it into big-time entertainment ... he invented football as entertainment," McGuire said."

Also, here is "93 Years of Lou" from last year:  http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2016-03-15/93-years-of-lou

Australian guitarist Stuart Fraser has lung cancer:

He played in Noiseworks and the John Farnham band. But more alluring is his connection to Olivia Newton-John. Is that enough for the Guardian or Daily Mail Australia?

Ha! Daily Mail coverage and the first sentence mentions Newton-John:

The Ross Hannaford of 2018?

Edit: Not the first sentence, the headline

Ipswich? I'd have thought such shenanigans would go down well with his electorate.
