Soul singer Renée Geyer dead at 69.

Mentioned a few times in this thread for her hard style of living. Was seemingly done in by complications from hip surgery, which also happened to discover inoperable lung cancer...

Always got him mixed up with the "Mad Max" director of the same name.

Vincent Gil, Australian actor, has died aged 84. Appeared in Home and AwayNeighbours and Mad Max (IMDb).

Obituaries: Daily MirrorThe Sun

There's a forum post here indicating that Paul Johnstone, Gil's friend widely reported at the time of Gil's death, has died: https://madmaxmovies.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16140

Johnstone portrayed Cundalini in the original Mad Max movie, the guy in red leathers and heart shaped glasses who loses his hand.

Source seems to be a long standing member of that forum, but we'd need corroboration.

Also, given the interest in Gough Whitlam and other Aussie politicians on this list, I though of putting together a list of opposition leaders who never became PM. Most of them are young though, so there aren't many interesting pickings but here are the failed contenders:

Simon Crean (ALP, born 1949.) No known health issues.

Simon Crean reportedly dead aged 74: https://www.watoday.com.au/politics/federal/former-federal-labor-leader-simon-crean-dies-aged-74-20230625-p5djcc.html

Slightly surprising, not a DDP pick, maybe a miss for the weathermen team (was that this year or last?).
