Octopus of Odstock 2,203 Posted July 10, 2023 Okay, Sir Jackie -for his age - is doing very well. No problems with walking and needed no assistance. But he is a little more frail, perhaps understandably, than recent appearances. I'd give him quite a few years yet.

The Immortal 636 Posted July 16, 2023 This hasn't been covered yet apparently but ex V8 Supercars driver Dale Brede is dead. Interestingly enough, he was teammates and very good friends with Mark Porter, one of only two drivers to ever be killed during a V8 Supercars race (Ashley Cooper being the other one). https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/8271720/accomplished-act-motor-racer-dale-brede-dies-aged-48/
The Immortal 636 Posted July 20, 2023 Update on Cale Yarborough from his daughter. Diagnosed with a very rare terminal condition apparently. It does seem to be of the slower progressive multiple sclerosis/dementia type of condition, rather than the fast progressing terminal cancer/ALS kind but regardless definitely a solid choice for DPs this point on.

I'm glad there's an update on Cale. I know he hasn't been doing well for a while. He used to attend every race at Talladega, which doesn't seem to have been the case since at least Covid. He wasn't on hand for the 75 Greatest NASCAR Drivers celebration at Darlington in May. I'll keep him on my DP for next year, and depending on how it progresses, the next few years. Hope medications at least help. He's a fighter and a tough guy though.
maryportfuncity 10,657 Posted July 21, 2023 So, not casualties but... Sizeable fire today at Lydden Hill that's put the World Rallycross Championship race into some doubt. Cause not known officially but serious suspicions that the batteries in one of the cars in Sebastian Loeb's team was at fault. Clearly, there are issues when batteries get damaged and containing such a fire is troublesome (summat the television report touched on), how much danger is there of a car crashing leading to a battery explosion, or worse. Not really to be honest. A grassroots/club sort of hero for many like, say, Ian Flux, Dave Brodie, Gerry Marshall but not in the top-league of touring car drivers etc. I had heard of him, but only peripherally. 1
