Bob Jenkins, IndyCar commentator battling brain cancer, is still doing a weekly Sunday radio show on an oldies station in Indiana. However, this is likely pre-recorded and assembled during the week and not aired live.

There's a picture in that obituary which shows a clearly poorly Jenkins in May. It's noticeable how awful Robin Miller looks too - he has terminal cancer and leukemia as well.

Mario Andretti and Roger Penske, mind you, look extremely well.

Nathalie Maillet. Former racer and current director of Spa Francorchamps, died after being shot by her husband https://jalopnik.com/nathalie-maillet-boss-of-spa-francorchamps-murdered-b-184748985. Quite a morbid way to go, even for a racer. NASCAR Dick Trickle is the only other racer I can think of to have died by gunshot (suicide in his case).

Elmer George and Ricardo Londono Bridge, Jackie Pretorius, Henry Pens are four names I can think of that died instantly or of injuries of gunshot wounds.

SHould Jackie Stewart be a Ideaffor Next year he is old

There are pics of Jackie Stewart from June 2020 here: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/sir-jackie-stewart-remind-wife-22149932

He doesn't look *too* bad. Article says he's been caring for his wife who has dementia. He's 83 next year but I reckon he may have a few more left in him.

Still, a better pick than half of the shots in the dark on the crap list this year.

Drivers who are poorly or have an illness of some sort:

Bondurant, Campbell - Jones (dementia or similar age related issues)

Ashmore, von Rooyen (cancer)

Tambay, Laffite, W Fittipaldi (Parkinson's)

Cabral and Edwards have age-related issues.

I'm sure there is a few more but I can't remember currently.

Obit chances of the non-Parkinson's trio? Probably only Bondurant, maybe.

A few of these are gone already and Gerry Ashmore has joined them.

I’m sad to report that Gerry Ashmore has died, aged 85. He raced 3 #F1 GPs in a privateer Lotus 18 in ’61: 16th at Nürburgring (pic) & 2 DNFs. He also entered the car for the non-championship #NaplesGP that year, bagging pole & finishing 2nd. #RIPGerryAshmore

Died yesterday according to a Google 'last 24 hours' search

I actually knew Gerry had died a few hours after his passing. But I held off posting it before anyone else as deference to the family. 19 year very painful and prolonged prostate cancer battle. Poor chap.

Now, here's one of OoO's random but possible brilliant suggestions - Francois Hesnault - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/François_Hesnault - just 64, still in charge of the family business. Should be fine, no? Well, his brother has just died. So what, I hear you say? Until you read the obituary - http://www.autonewsinfo.com/2021/08/26/deces-de-philippe-hesnault-369483.html - Francois has lost both brothers due to a genetic disease this year. No idea what the genetic disease is, but.. hey

Also, a more confirmed case to keep an eye on is Julian Bailey. Looks much much older than his 59 years https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/archive/article/september-2021/127/family-fortunes-julian-bailey-and-his-pioneering-motor-sport-family (looks more like late 70's). Heavy drinker, heavy smoker. Suffered a stroke a few months back - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Bailey

Problem - C is the big C, H/A is obvious, S is what rowers do, Fr is Anna from Brookside, P is Cecil, Alc is AA, V is to do with the mind of some sorts and ARI is "old and ill".

It's been around 1 and a half years since this list was made and majority of these guys are dead, can you give a new updated list (especially curious about Jean Pierre Jabouille)?

At the moment, I can't devote too much time to this but in brief:

Vaccarella now in very poor health.

John Rhodes has only recently become quite frail

Julian Bailey as per above post

Paul Owens ex Chevron has dementia

Parnelli Jones very frail

John Wickham has motor neurone disease

Shouldnt a race car driver getting motor neurone disease be in ironic deaths (when he dies)?  Noted.

Surely quite a few of the oldsters discussed here would qualify as ironic given the time they're taking to cross the finish line!

Well, I get told a lot of info which is why a lot of suggestions about 17 months ago are now deceased. The only problem is QOs for them which is why there's no point doing a DDP team with them.
