Not dissing the level of tragedy here but..."legend" rich kid sustained by solid family sponsorship who won one significant race. If you set the "legend" bar any lower the track marshals will qualify!

‘A shooting’ ?!???

How about some basic details like:

“Former NASCAR driver, 31, fatally shot after attacking ex-wife with hatchet” for fuxsake.

https://www.today.com/news/former-nascar-driver-john-wes-townley-killed-georgia-shooting-t232933

Reminds me of the joke with the punchline ‘don’t bring a knife to a gunfight’

NASCAR racing and commentary legend "Gentleman" Ned Jarrett is 89 years old now and is looking very frail nowadays.

Former short circuit motorcycle road racer Paul Smart, who won the Imola 200 in 1972 and raced in the Grand Prix in the 350cc and 250cc classes, died at 78 years:

His son Scott also raced 250ccGPs about 20 years ago. I think he was also Brother in law of former DL hit Barry Sheene.

Sir Jackie Stewart yesterday.

Yes, he looked very well presenting Valtteri Bottas with a 70th Anniversary Fangio helmet. He did however say it was the 50th anniversary which, by The Old Crem’s standards, means he has dementia and about 20 minutes to live.

No, by Old Crem standards, he has terminal brain cancer (as any mistake is surely cancer) and has 20 minutes to live. It's always cancer with The Old Crem.

Jackie Stewart - claimed to be apolitical during the Independence Referendum, then suddenly came over all pro-Brexit a few years later. Lives in Switzerland.

Not every fucker in tartan is Scottish (sure, you've had a wedding in your area in the last 20 years? Ha!). Given his age and presence, I'm going to say he'll identify as British.

Odd character. And why doesn't he have a thread of his own?

Probably because he's pretty healthy and won't likely be troubling the DL for a good few years yet

Probably what Astro and Andy Barker thought. ;)

We seem to chat about him on a fairly regular basis, and bury mentions of him in the larger thread.

He's a very rare beast being a top F1 driver from the late 60s and early 70s still in decent nick.

He’s the only F1 World Champion from the 60s still alive.
