NASCAR legend Cale Yarborough has not appeared at all in public since around 2018-2019 and considering he used to attend races and sign fan autographs regularly, this is not a good sign.

Speaking of TT's are we were above the Ulster Grand Prix is on this year and some other events in that series too - all in financial trouble but fighting back. Only mention this because the Deathlist Cup will be in it's later stages by then and deft choices in dangerous races might be a feature. This is current (2019) champion Lee Johnston in action, he's got ankylosing spondylitis - not something that's likely to help when your survival depends on delicate touches in split seconds. Brave as fuck, frankly, but it'd be neglectful to ignore it hereabouts.

Glad to see the UGP back, it was in financial trouble before covid and looked like 2019 may be the last one. Lee was diagnosed before last season but was still a front runner in the British championship, the biggest problem is that it's been 3 years since anyone has ridden those circuts and roads change and knowledge fades over that time.

Aye, but the DL Cup comes round reliably every year and the later rounds coincide with TT action.

Kevin Olson, a two-time USAC Midget Champion and contributor to publications including Sprint magazine, has died. He was 70. Olson was killed in a car accident on Friday, which would also make him a candidate for the Ironic death thread.

Danny Ongais, former Formula 1 and Indianapolis 500 driver, has died, aged 79:

The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America is deeply saddened to report that Ezekiel “Danny” Ongais passed away Feb. 26, 2022 in Anaheim Hills, California from congestive heart complications. He was 79. A masterful road racer, open wheel racer, motorcycle rider and drag racer, "Danny On-The-Gas" aka "The Flyin' Hawaiian" was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2000. One of the greatest crew chiefs of his era said that Ongais was, quite simply, "the most talented driver I ever worked with." Rest In Speed, Danny

Very sad but not at all surprised to hear Quick Vic has died. The largely overused term ‘Legend’ is very, very justified to describe him. Extremely talented in multiple disciplines.

I did suggest him for DL as it was no secret how poorly he was but I guess he didn't fit the DL criteria.

Tremendous shame and he will be much missed.

Reports coming via Facebook that 1970's Grand Prix driver Reine Wisell has died.

Suspect it's true by the names of the Swedish journalists who are posting it but nothing confirmed yet.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reine_Wisell

Edit - confirmed but this is a subscription site. https://www.svd.se/racinglegendaren-reine-wisell-dod

Died suddenly which makes sense as I wasn't aware he was Ill

Well, the Jeddah GP is going ahead on Sunday despite the fact there was a missile attack at an Aramco oil depot near the track done by Yemeni Houthi rebels.

Oh, and not to mention the track itself was under major controversy from the drivers for being too dangerous. Let's see how this goes shall we?

Good luck to Red Bull making it to the finish line without their engines etc stopping.

Scary, scary crash from Mick Schumacher just now in Q2. He’s at the medical centre, conscious and talking but that was a 170+mph shunt into the barrier and he was lifted out of the car by the medical team.

This won't affect (meaningful) Cup entries.

The two-time Dakar Rally winner, Joan “Nani” Roma, announced on his Instagram page that he is battling bladder cancer, but the prognosis looks good and he will be undergoing treatment very soon, albeit with a bunch of races missed.
