Jackie's still regularly seen on the grid walk before a grand prix. Looks sprightlier even than Martin Brundle who's like 20 years his junior.

Henri Pescarolo and Gerrard Larrousse (French Le Mans legends) seem to have slowed down quite a bit since the last year or so. Both men look visibly frail now in their most recent public appearances I could find. Additionally, Pescarolo has had a stroke sometime in recent years. Both have been regular attendants of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, wonder if they will show up this year.

Sounds like the end is nigh

Really got to enjoy the last few years of some of the few legends we have left from that era. Richard Petty, Cale, Bobby and Donnie Allison, Red Farmer, etc. Crazy how Hershel McGriff is still healthy at his age.

Two recent deaths, both had some degree of notability in their particular discipline:

Long-time sportscar driver, a Le Mans specialist, George Fouche, died after complications of a fall. He was only 57.

Took a class win at Le Mans and one-time test driver for Jordan's F1 team, but he nearly perished in 1987 for had his connecting flight arrived on time, he would've been on the ill-fated (South African Airways) Flight 295 which crashed, killing all 159 people on board including wrestler Kazuharu Sonoda. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kazuharu_Sonoda

Meanwhile, Giancarlo Gagliardi, who raced in European Formula 2 and 3, also took a class win at Le Mans and very nearly raced in Formula 1 for Frank Williams (in the days before Williams struck gold), died 1st May in Varese - https://www.varesenews.it/2023/05/addio-a-giancarlo-gagliardi-pilota-e-imprenditore/1603544/

My sister is a race marshall and knew him well, she would chat online with him and the team most days, she said they were all so proud of his result yesterday.

This was the last time they met at the North West 200 last month.

I'm sorry for the loss of a friend of your sister, he really seemed like a very good person and he was in an excellent phase getting the record for his country on the same day, it was a fatality indeed

Pescarolo didn't attend due to a hospitalization and sadly seems to be quite ill now with multiple health issues, sounded very weak in a phone interview in which he explained why he missed the event. https://www.ouest-france.fr/sport/24-heures-du-mans/24-heures-du-mans-2023-henri-pescarolo-ne-sera-pas-present-au-centenaire-847bade4-043d-11ee-ba53-20eb6006433b

On a side note, I don't believe that Larrousse was there either. Not sure what's up with him, but he's 83 so very possible he might not be in the best health either.

Lewis Hamilton reckons a rule modification to stop teams enjoying years of dominance is in order. A fair point, though not something he was touting as a good idea five years back.

Dilano van ‘t Hoff, driver for MP Motorsport in the Formula Regional European Championship, has died aged 18 in an accident at a wet Spa-Francorchamps.

Eau Rouge-Raidillon once again proving an incredibly perilous part of the track, particularly in the wet. That blind crest at the top of one of the fastest corners on the calendar is proving too dangerous for the stiff, low-down, heavily downforce-reliant race cars of today. Anthoine Hubert died there in F2 2019, as nearly did Juan-Manuel Correa. Jack Aitken shattered most of his bones in a Lamborghini not long after. There was a six-driver smash in the W Series in 2021, it was an absolute miracle nobody was seriously injured in that.
