gcreptile 10,979 Posted November 24, 2018 Krzysztof Penderecki, according to the Guardian, "Poland's greatest living composer" unable to attend one of his 85th birthday concerts for "personal reasons": https://slippedisc.com/2018/11/penderecki-drops-out-of-birthday-events-for-personal-reasons/ Reminds me of Pierre Boulez - on the other hand, maybe he's just sad about the state of health of Jean-Louis Trintignant. Sir Creep 7,070 Posted November 29, 2018 When Chuck Penington died last week, the Intergeneration Orchestra of Omaha (Nebraska) lost the only conductor it ever had. The orchestra, which is the only one of its kind in the country, paired musicians who are older than 50 with those younger than 25. Penington was with the Intergeneration Orchestra for 30 years. He also spent 30 years with Chip Davis and Mannheim Steamroller as a keyboardist and conductor. He was injured on Labor Day weekend, had intensive rehabilitation and appeared to be recovering. He was able to ride nine hours to his son’s wedding in Milwaukee at the end of September, his wife said. But he had lingering troubles from the accident and died Nov. 21 at the age of 73. Sir Creep 7,070 Posted January 11, 2019 Norman Schweikert was a longtime horn player for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, who also taught at Northwestern University. Nationally recognized for his research into the lives of U.S. orchestra musicians, Schweikert also was one of the founding members of the International Horn Society. “Norman spent most of his 26 CSO years playing second horn, in the middle of the section, facilitating cohesion and unity,” said CSO acting principal horn Dan Gingrich, who worked alongside Schweikert for 22 years. Schweikert, 81, died of congestive heart failure Dec. 31, and was married for 57 years. SC
