DaDeathGuy 202 Posted May 7, 2023 If it was true they'd just find new voice actors for all the characters. Nothing is stopping the money train.

She can't do the Marge voice at all anymore. It's clearly gotten much worse than it was before. Not that I think she is dying I just think she clearly can't do the show anymore.

Skinner sounded off in that episode as well...

Tbh in that clip Homer sounded a bit off as well. Like his voice has lost a bit of the homer edge and smoothed out a bit. Still sounds like homer but yeah everyone in that show is getting too old to play their roles
Leon Brittan 293 Posted December 12, 2023 Sadly it's gone on far too long. The greatest show of it's time in the heyday. I reckon all the voices will be AI soon.

Fairly easy to keep consistent in comparison to Marge as well.
roaming_comrade 471 Posted December 13, 2023 I worked in customer service for a few years and always looked at people's birthyear. There, I noticed that theres some age line in people's late 60s, at which you can tell from their voice that they are past that age line. It really is a thing that almost no one before their early 60s has but everyone of 70+. Some kind of raspiness in the voice. And, well, looking at the voice actors of the Simpsons, there's many in that age range, Homer's voice actor is getting there too. Would be the easiest to soon just replace them with AI that imitates their old voices.
Charles De Gaulle 484 Posted December 14, 2023 Update: Out of curiosity I decided to check out the episode in question to see just how bad the voices have gotten. Julie Kavner is REALLY bad. She consistently sounds exactly like what she sounds in the video Spade. Not once throughout the entire episode did she sound like Marge at all. Another posted here mentioned reports of Skinner sounding off and I can verify that claim. Skinner sounds like an 80 year old man now. The first scene he appears in is so weird because he sounds like Skinner at the start and then the voice gradually goes deeper.

Sean 6,314 Posted December 14, 2023 I remember reading that Kavner has had a bump on her vocal cords which gave her the distinctly raspy voice. She declined surgery as it could have ruined her career.Whether the consequences of declining the surgery have led to the deterioration in her voice all these years later.I have always wondered whether Kavner is a smoker.also due to her voice although that is rare for voice actors due to the damage it does to the voice ( and we probably all wondered that at some point as Patty , Selma and Jacqueline Bouvier all smoked like Chinneys).Marge.now sounds like her mother with a very bad head cold. DCI Frank Burnside 3,887 Posted May 13 Shearer's voice well and truly gone. Series should have finished 20 years ago and that's probably being generous. 1st 10 seasons are great and then there's the odd gem in the next 4 or 5 but other than that all downhill 6

msc 18,438 Posted May 13 Recent episodes I've seen have been quite good actually. Not nineties Simpsons great but certainly better than a lot of modern TV. But the original cast are getting on and there should have been plans for that years ago.

One would have thought by now, with technology, that AI could take over from the main cast, using their own likenesses for an annual fee if that's the way they wanted to go.

If they can recast the voice of Bugs Bunny they can recast the voice of Marge Simpson. But then that was the answer to the Apu dilemma. I've oft thought the way to end the show is to get rid of the floating timeline. Have Homer save the day in a huge way and end of episode one of the kids has their ninth or tenth birthday. And then we wrap up by following the rest of their lives. Could make a good final season.

Family guy did it (somewhat successfully, I prefer the old guy's voice a bit) - and yet Disney thought it better to write off one of the most successful Indian-American characters in television history off the show essentially. Simpsons did recast a number of other characters though, and it is sadly, worse than Cleveland... As for the current lot pf primary actors, I'm pretty sure it's been said that Disney had a plan to replace some of them at points due to contract disputes. But if they're alive and under contract, why not keep them until they fall over... At least in the mind of Disney's execs anyway.
