That's usually because news sites have a tendency to archive or move articles older than a certain date, or scrub them entirely to make space on their site.

Wiki has a way around this by using archive machine sites to resurrect old pages. Sadly, because of the sheer size of Wiki now there just aren't enough editors to do it.

If it was true they wouldn't tell us ( The Police) as it would jeopardise the investigation.Not sure if witness protection applies when deceased but may well do if say he has relationships with those who don't know.If people knew a missing man found dead was Venables I sincerely doubt the public would come forward with any potentially relevant information whereas if it stays anonymous people would much more likely to cooperate with police.Furthermore if everyone in the community and indeed the country knew it was Venables there is a fairly high chance you would get loads of people covering for the murderer giving false alibis helping them destroy evidence and all other manner of issues.

In fact, Venables is still in jail - went in 2018 for child porn, denied parole a year ago, up for parole next year some time. Of course he could have been done in Swansea nick, but that's not the twitter rumour.
