CarolAnn 926 Posted May 8, 2016 I have enough headache living five miles from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport without worrying about what type of planes are rattling my windows. Y'all aviation enthusiasts have fun.

Deathray 2,940 Posted May 8, 2016 Can someone explain why you can't use plane/train spotter? The one's I really couldn't understand where the bus spotters at school, or is that passenger carrying vehicle enthusiast?
Cat O'Falk 3,290 Posted May 8, 2016 Can someone explain why you can't use plane/train spotter? The one's I really couldn't understand where the bus spotters at school, or is that passenger carrying vehicle enthusiast? To me a spotter is (and always has been) someone who collects and logs the registrations. Personally, I no longer do that but I'm not offended if someone labels me a spotter. An enthusiast is someone who follows, or is engaged in the industry but doesn't log registrations. All spotters are enthusiasts but not all enthusiasts are spotters. Bus spotters/enthusiasts are no different; we're all quite fucking mad from most other people's point of view. Who am I to argue?
Toast 16,145 Posted May 8, 2016 Can someone explain why you can't use plane/train spotter? The one's I really couldn't understand where the bus spotters at school, or is that passenger carrying vehicle enthusiast? Here's a site I stumbled upon a while ago, for bus spotters who aren't allowed out don't get out much. http://www.busesonscreen.net
Deathray 2,940 Posted May 8, 2016 What I never understood was the level of detail the bus enthusiasts managed, who has time to learn all of the bus routes in their city by heart?
charon 4,943 Posted May 8, 2016 Deathers, they probably couldn't understand why you will know average life expectancies from various stages of different cancers off by heart. Different strokes, innit.
Cat O'Falk 3,290 Posted May 8, 2016 What I never understood was the level of detail the bus enthusiasts managed, who has time to learn all of the bus routes in their city by heart? My mate Geoff but then again he's a bus driver. It's a hobby; people will always find time to pursue a hobby.
Lard Bazaar 3,799 Posted May 8, 2016 What I never understood was the level of detail the bus enthusiasts managed, who has time to learn all of the bus routes in their city by heart? My friend's young son is a bus spotter. He can tell you all about every bus in their area, draw them in fine detail etc etc. It might be geeky but he is absolutely passionate about his subject. He has a hard enough time at school as he is autistic, without being bullied for being a bus geek. But he soldiers on pursuing his hobby and I admire him for that.

Lard Bazaar 3,799 Posted May 8, 2016 I am indeed alive thus far, despite some vigorous exercise this morning. I even had fruit for breakfast. But rest assured I am ringing the doc in the morning, in the vain hope that I can see a GP sometime before the turn of the century.

rockhopper penguin 2,265 Posted May 8, 2016 I started spotting artificial satellites but so far have only managed the ISS. Piss poor really.
En Passant 3,741 Posted May 8, 2016 Why do people watch programmes detailing the fictitious lives of a bunch of folks who stumble endlessly from one personal crisis to another, for 20 years or more on a thrice weekly basis? Why do people go out and get drunk and fall over and wake up and not remember what they did and feel absolutely awful for the next 24 hours, and then go and do it again, and again, and again? Why do people pay sometimes 50 quid and upwards to be fed something from a kitchen they can't see when they could have beans on toast at home for 50p and be just as well fed? I may not have put that terribly well or have chosen poor comparisons by your standards, but some form of transport spotting enthusiasm seems no worse to me than any of these and markedly better for your health/finances in 2 of the cases
charon 4,943 Posted May 8, 2016 ^^^ (checked post number) re the drunk thing, I disagree. You don't feel like shit for 24 hours and then go out again unless you're a fucking amatuer.
charon 4,943 Posted May 8, 2016 I started spotting artificial satellites but so far have only managed the ISS. Piss poor really. I moved to the north of Lewis about 11 years ago for a couple of years, and although just a wee bit further north, the lack of light pollution was astounding . The sky on a clear night is just a grid of sats. It was harder to spot the stars.

Keilder is amazing on a clear night.
Cat O'Falk 3,290 Posted May 8, 2016 I started spotting artificial satellites but so far have only managed the ISS. Piss poor really. Heavens-Above is a good site for finding out when and where to look. I've seen literally hundreds but the site won't let you log them anymore. There's a Transit of Mercury tomorrow visible from the UK and the weather forecast is excellent. The next one is in 2019 and 2032 after that.
charon 4,943 Posted May 8, 2016 Yeh, 'light pollution'. It's great to see councils switching off street lights. Cars have lights anyways, and in rural areas no cunt walks back from the pub.
charon 4,943 Posted May 8, 2016 Re the autism thang lardy, I also disagree with that. Through no other reason than a 1 minute think on it, I probably fall within the semi autistic, bi polar , manic depressive loon. The reason I haven't been diagnosed is I wouldn't go to a doc over it, as to get it diagnosed is to acknowledge the problems existence, and give justification to overpaying the cunts in the NHS. Fuck 'em. Got plenty of abuse in school but what you don't understand is the absolute joy that you get out of being better. Shwings/roonaboots. Don't give the boy sympathy, give him a boot up the arse, he needs challanged.
Cat O'Falk 3,290 Posted May 8, 2016 Cars don't shine their lights into the sky so that's not really a problem. Leicester City Council are converting all their street-lights from ones that shine upwards as well as downwards to ones that just shine downwards. http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Amazing-images-3-000-feet-Leicester-s-light/story-20572858-detail/story.html
charon 4,943 Posted May 8, 2016 No, but cars shine their light on the road , hence no reason at all for street lighting. Apart from anti burglarising thoughts.
