Alex Higgins for 2005?

Recommended Posts

There were some pics of him today in the paper, which jarred my memory...

Does the forum believe that Al has truly fought off his throat cancer?

They're making a stage play about him. Doesn't that set alarm bells ringing for next year?

A guy at work met him in a pub in Northern Ireland about 18 months ago and he was in a really bad way - but after that he tried to qualify for the World Snooker champs although ultimately withdrew so Im not sure of his condition now.

I think hes probably less of a hurricane these days and more of a draft. If we get him next year how about "Gone with the Wind" (though its been used before - 2003 Warren Zevon) ??

What paper are you reading by the way Stayin??

Gone with the wind! That works.

Does he have one of those mafia crime boss style voice boxes now ("a-l-e-x--h-i-i-g-g-g-i-n-n-n-z")? He might sound more like a cylon than he previously did. Still, would make for some interesting commentaries on BBC2.

I'm reading the Indie these days, until the G shrinks down to the compact format all us commuters have come to expect. I'm sure the Alex Higgins thing was in one of the red tops; somebody at work had some crappy paper lying around on their desk. He did look proper rough.

I thought for a moment you'd gone on holiday reeps.

This thread reminds me that Jimmy White was operated on for Testicular Cancer, last year.

I doubt he'll be a 2005 pick, but could be one to watch for the following years.

A tad. What's a tad? Is that a common expression in Essex then?

I believe all is explained in the film "Airplane":

"How much exactly is a tad off course?  Well in laymen's terms, about 2 million miles"

I Hope this helps.

Although it could of been in "Airplane 2: The Same Jokes Again", but whose counting?

DWB - I thought you were referring to "Tad" Striker but then I remembered...

Airplane 2 - a Tad is defined as "90 million miles (off course) and we're heading straight for the sun"

Seems to sum it up well ;)

;) Alex has the constitution of an Ox. You can stick your morbid thoughts up your jacksie cos i'm telling you he's not playing snooker again. Its the most corrupt game in the world and he's not having anymore of it.

Guest going going gone....

Just saw him on tv, yes he has a play opening soon (sad but true) he looked alive but not well. He WAS a brilliant player and has had a hell of alot going on in his life which is probably one of the reasons he looks terrible these days.

Am sure he could still give a good round in snooker though...

"Hurricane" seems to be getting a lot of free publicity here. Perhaps we should start offering e-ticketing and online betting.

It's all very fine to make mock of the Hurricane...don't forget that it was him and Jimmy White who put snooker on the map, and the likes of Jimmy and Ronnie O'Sullivan who are playing their asses off to keep it there!!!
