Derby Dead Pool 2010

Recommended Posts

I've entered my team as one of the first, for reasons of integrity. (Its a slightly different one than the one I tested OoO BTW!)

Pah! I need no help to finish towards the bottom of the table! :D

Besides, I've already picked my 20, but haven't submitted it yet just in case;

1) One of them dies between now & late December

2) In case any "Interesting" ill people crop up in the next two weeks....

Little update:

59 teams have been loaded so far, already with some interesting choices.

As a wheeze I will build up to the unveiling of the new compettion by doing a countdown of 2010's most popular picks

in the manner of the BBC website's music survey of up and coming music stars, The Sound of 2010.

This will be The of Dying of 2010

Thanks for all your support guys and gals.

Before I start the ball rolling for 2010, I'm going to test the water with a proposal for an extra bonus point situation.

It would be called 1st and last and it would be a 2 point bonus for any hit on January 1st and/or December 31st.

If most of you think it's a good idea then I'll put it in, but if you think its bobbins, I'll leave it out.

Also, if any of you have any suggestions/issues for me to ponder over either for next year or beyond, then let me know...

I'm actually against this bonus... I feel that the game should be determined more on skill of choice than random events (accidents and overdoses excepted)... after all, a person who picks several troubled young actors who overdosed shouldn't be ranked lower than someone who picks a bunch of cancer-ridden oldsters who happen to die at the "right" time. Of course I'm being a bit hypocritical given the CPDP rules, but overall I feel that the more random events you have, the more likely someone is going to get edged out for no other reason than they died on an arbitrary date.

I agree with CP. There are already a few interesting "gimmicks" in the pool and they are kind of fun. If too many are put in it will make the game more of a crap shoot than a game of skill.

The way I play, it's already more of a case of a crap pick, than a game of skill.

Are we allowed two teams? Do they need two different email addresses?

You can have two as long as one is a theme team....

Oh damn. Can the theme of the team be 'people I think are going to die in 2010'? :)

Hang on - if I do it from two different email addresses you wouldn't know it was me, would you?

What about a bonus if Nelson Mandela dies during the World Cup?

Never mind that shit, I've got to sort out this sub business now that Cahal Daly kicked the bucket!

The good news it that makes it a record 146th hit in a year, moving ahead of last year's total.

It's also The Duke's Death List's first ever hit, as you might say, right at the death....

Just submitted my team with about an hour to go. Left out some riskier picks like Ethan Zohn (seems to be cancer-free), Jenn Lyon, Moe Benoit, Jim Stynes, Paul Quarrington, Nick Charles, John Shelton Wilder (low chance of obit), Laurent Fignon and Jose Alencar (cancers stable or in remission), which has unfortunately left me with a lot of old people... guess I wasn't feeling much into risk taking. I even put my joker on Rubinstein. :banghead:

Happy New Year everyone!

I guess so. Although if you're program got an entry from CarolAnn, then I can see why it might be suspicious of anything from Texas. :banghead:

lol - yeah, bloody family stuff got in the way - can't they get their priorities right? Anyway, was so short of time that I was contemplating not entering, but I've been doing it for five consecutive years I think, so quickly threw in names 14-20 and hit send. Therefore this is going to be a poor year I think.
