Most Significant Death Of Each Month

Recommended Posts

I hear that. No one worth a shit and four people of extreme note in 6 hours. Dusty Rhodes for me hurts the worst....just cuz I expected CLee to die at some point. I'd have named 10 wrestlers I'd expect to die before Dusty

Yet another thread I can't believe has died and withered.

2015 (so far): Reasons are personal and contradict each other on a monthly basis and that's ok it's my list my rules. "Most Significant" can mean a lot of things, but in general if the wind got taken outta my sails for a brief moment, I felt real sadness and that's 'significance'. Otoh my DPs were all sassy with points when Givens died, and it was an I Told You So moment and this my greatest pick in DP so far, and thus significant. I also love those goofy people we didn't know about but who impacted our lives, so June for instance I only have one person worth a damn and it's the inventor of the hula hoop, which is significant. My rules my list.

Jan - Edgar Froese; Donna Douglas / Ernie Banks

Feb - Ahmad Givens; Leonard Nimoy / Dean Smith

Mar - Sam Simon; Gene Patton / Michael Graves

Apr - Percy Sledge; Jonathan Crombie / Gary Dahl / Albert Taubman

May - BB King and Marques Haynes (tie); Rutger Gunnarsson

June (so far) - Horst Brandstaetter

Just post your damned list DrZ

Hi Everyone,

I like this idea but it might be something best left till the end of the year. I might complete the 2015 list while I wait for my wife to get ready for a New Year's Eve party. For what it's worth here is my list up till May. Hadn't really noticed but it has been a pretty slow year, very few showstoppers on this list. Personally, the most significant of the year is Richie Benaud.

January - King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia

February - Leonard Nimoy

March - Terry Pratchett

April - Richie Benaud

May - B.B. King

Agreed re: end of year I just wanted to get a few months outta the way. For me, Edgar Froese is the biggest death this year this far....broke my heart to hear it. Hopefully it stays that way but if/when Chris Squire goes I will literally cry.

Is it just my imagination (or perspective), or has October been a very lean month for notable deaths?

Again, taking a bit of an international perspective....if the most significant deaths of the month are a couple of ex-Chancellors of the Exchequer, it has been a pretty lean month.

So to update my personal list for the year (trying my best to be objective but with natural biases due to geography and personal interests), here is my list for the year to date:

January - King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia

February - Leonard Nimoy

March - Terry Pratchett

April - Richie Benaud

May - B.B. King

June - Christopher Lee

July - Omar Sharif

August - Cilla Black

September - Jackie Collins

Really quite a slow year.

We were lucky here. We had Marco Pannella in May and Anna Marchesini/Bernardo Provenzano in July. I would say Islom Karimov rather than Arquette for September.
