2017: No real significant deaths that stuck out, but in terms of cultural impact and how long I've known who they were I would have to say Hefner with Manson in a close second.

Regardless, this speculation isn't fit for the middle of the month. For all we know, a Former President or the Queen could drop dead tomorrow. Too early to say now but I agree, Hawking is currently the most significant.

Really tough to choose one in May.

 

I think both David Goodall and John Bain were seminal deaths in deadpooling history. The former for the announcement of his euthanasia and the straight execution of it, and the latter as the first gamer / internet professional to receive obituaries almost universally.

 

You could also make cases for Tom Wolfe and Philipp Roth.

I'd give it to John Bain. Over 2 million subs and more people watch his vids than quite alot of shows on tv. He is the first real big gamer,lets player,game reviewer etc to die. Angry grandpa probably the only other you tuber i can think of with more subs that has died.

I'm intrigued by the suggestions above.

 

While each person has their own definition of "significant", I'm frankly astonished by Bain and Goodall being suggested. Goodall will be remembered mostly for his euthanasia. Bain is a "famous for being (moderately and niche) famous" pick. I find nothing seminal, intriguing, inventive or great thinking in either.

 

When gamers who play games become the norm as "significant", then we truly are in the end times.....

Tom Wolfe, Philip Roth, Patricia Morison, Clint Walker, Robert Indiana, Bernard Lewis, Ray Wilson, Margot Kidder, Tessa Jowell... this was a great month. But the most significant death was indeed Big Bully Busick.

This month will be tough, although we still have 12 days left.

Xxxtentacion may have not impacted the older generations but he is definitely the most significant for younger people. You'll also continue to hear about his death in the news in the search for his killer.

Kate Spade revolutionized fashion and her handbags are iconic. Her name is also the most recognizable imo.

Anthony Bourdain was a fixture on CNN with Parts Unknown and other famous shows. He definitely reached people more often than Spade or Xxxtentacion.

I'm sure there are also arguments for Grantham or Krauthammer when he goes, but right now, in the end, I think Xxxtentacion's could be more significant, or at least for me.
