The Cardinals Of The Roman Catholic Church

Recommended Posts

Pope Francis visited Cardinal Roger Etchegaray in hospital on Sunday night, after the cardinal fell while greeting the Pontiff at the end of Mass in St Peter’s Basilica earlier in the day. Cardinal Etchegaray, 93, is being treated at the Gemelli Hospital, in Rome, for a fractured left femur.

He will reportedly need an operation to repair the fracture. The cardinal previously broke his leg and hip on Christmas Eve in 2009 at St Peter’s Basilica, when a woman knocked him and Benedict XVI to the ground during midnight Mass.

Dude needs to find another place of worship to work at. Jeesh.

This one is 93 with surgeries for broken bones? He's checking out soon. 2016 possibility.

SC

He was on my Roger & Out theme team last year; seems like it might be time to promote him to the main team.

I mentioned him in passing last week. No news would seem to be bad news for Cardinal Etchegaray wouldn't it? No visits, no 'getting back on his feet' no nothing. I'm thinking where there's smoke, there's a new Pope....and fire. No updates to Ethcegaray by June I will pontificate he will be dead by year's end.

And he's the 15th hit on my 150 men list. No one knew he was so ill, I noted he's the only Italian cardinal over 90 which is not on your list.

I suppose it depends if you count Ratzinger or not. Anyway, he is the last man standing from that generation.

Since Ratzinger is no longer a cardinal, we can assume that Arns was the last living one. But of course, also Raztinger has been created by the same Pope, in the last concistory he hold.

I think he's got the wrong thread and he meant to post in DL status updates that he was digging a tunnel.

Czech Cardinal Miloslav Vlk, 84, suffers from lung cancer with bone metastases and he will undergo chemotherapy, his website www.cardinal.cz has announced.
Vlk's health troubles appeared last spring and he had to be hospitalised before Christmas. Doctors diagnosed him with cancer in early January. Now he is staying in home care.
"He accepted the diagnosis calmly, when the professors announced it to him. It was he who supported them and assured that he is following the right path, since he believes that his departure is the best solution," the web writes.
In the autumn, Vlk stayed in a spa with joint pains, but his trouble further worsened afterwards. His left shoulder swelled and he suffered from dizziness.
On Christmas Eve, he was admitted to a coronary unit with heart rhythm disorder.
A CT scan and bronchoscopy confirmed lung tumor with bone metastases.
