Luigi De Magistris dead at 95.

50% (5/10) dead from your list in under a year. That seems a high turnover

9. Agostino Cacciavillan (1926)

Health; mentally sharp, able to walk with a cane, overall very good.

Health: how is this guy still alive? It was a continued hospitalization for him two or three years ago. His successor died last week. Uberfrail.

Agostino Cacciavillan dead at 95.

Now 6 out of 10 dead in under a year. Time for a new list?

There are now only 10 cardinals born in the 1920s. A year ago there were 20.

Eleven if you count former cardinals - Pope Benedict was once a Cardinal and born in 1927. Also he is the last cardinal named by Pope Paul VI.

Ernest Simoni, called the "living martyr of Albania" spent around 28 years in prison and in forced labor under Enver Hoxha's regime. He's was made a cardinal at 88 in 2016. Still seems to be very active, was able to walk without aid four months ago.

Latest video of Kitbunchu I could find is this:

Given Pope Francis' recent use of a wheelchair, potential health issue(s) and it is the end of the Easter season, it seems that 2022 is overdue for consistory.

At the time of writing, there are 209 cardinals, of which 117 are cardinal electors.  This is below the maximum threshold of 120 that can participate at the papal conclave.  Francis has exceeded that threshold every consistory, yet if often falls below 120 within months.

Francis has held consistories as follows:

22 February 2014 - 19 cardinals, 122 electors

14 February 2015 - 20 cardinals, 125 electors

19 November 2016 - 17 cardinals, 121 electors

28 June 2017 - 5 cardinals, 121 electors

28 June 2018 - 14 cardinals, 125 electors

5 October 2019 - 13 cardinals, 128 electors

28 November 2020 - 13 cardinals, 128 electors

The time periods between consistories has been 12, 21, 7, 12, 16, and 13 months; currently going on 18 months since the November 2020 consistory.  So certainly possible.

It is also worth noting that the next cardinal to turn 80 is Norberto Rivera Carrera on 6 June, created cardinal by John Paul II.  On 3 September the next cardinal to turn 80 is a Francis creation.  From 22 September 2022 to 17 September 2023, a total of 11 cardinals will turn 80, 9 created by Benedict XVI and 2 by John Paul II. The next Francis creation after this to turn 80 is on 1 October 2023.

If Francis is looking to his influence in the College of Cardinals and keeping his current state of health in mind, appointments between now and September make sense to cement his percentage of the demographics, especially for the electors.

Catholic Church in Uganda once again having to deny rumours of the death of Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala.

They say he is "alive and well". Hmmmmm..... I don't doubt he's alive but "well"?

Our favourite paedo-protector Angelo Sodano has been hospitalised with COVID pneumonia and the article tone is not very optimistic.

Rest in what?

Sodano embodied the absolute worse of Vatican hierarchy! He used his immense power to cover up abuses from the clergy for years and he himself was a closeted homosexual and suspected paedophile. He defined abuses by priests as "petty gossip". He was so much of a cunt he was even hated in a place full of cunts like the Vatican. Hell of a good riddance, he was probably the worst.

Yeah, just to contextualise this.

Yes, a majority of the Vatican had nothing to do with abuse and knew nothing about it, and many of them would have certainly spoken out if they knew or suspected anything.

There are others who heard whispers but assumed it had to be akin to those Jimmy Savile rumours. (ie that nearly everyone thought outlandish, until they turned out true.)

There are those who were told about stuff but through some personal failing or other didn't report it.

None of these apply to Sodano, who not only knew about the stuff going back to the 80s, he actively supressed the information for decades. He even pushed back on Pope Benedict on the matter, and when Benny is more liberal than you on this matter... He shielded known abusers from being revealed, left them to find new victims, and slandered anyone who came forward. He is legit the embodiment of evil in this regard.

Such a relief he passed away! Italian medias are almost not giving the news.

His coat of arms:

He was the oldest Italian living cardinal. Now this 'title' has moved to Salvatore De Giorgi (06/09/1930).
