Death Songs

Recommended Posts

"You're Going To Die" ends the latest (and apparently last ever) Kunt and the Gang album, and seems a fitting track for deathlisters worldwide. Also contains presumably the first ever pop lyric to reference Beverley Allitt.

Archive of Pain by the Manic Street Preachers namechecks Beverly Allitt.

"Kill Yeltsin, who's saying?

Zhirinovsky, Le Pen,

Hindley and Brady, Ireland, Allit, Sutcliffe,

Dahmer, Nielson, Yoshinori Ueda,

Blanche and Pickles, Amin, Milosovic

Give them respect they deserve"

The death metal band, Death, could be our theme band.

Terry Jacks 'Seasons in the Sun'

Makes me want to top meself, anyway!

The original song by Jacques Brel is SO much better.  He manages to nail being both bitter and jaunty.

Shame, the live performance video's gone.  Here's one with English subtitles at least.

How about Whiskey in the Jar?

Also, Tom Lehrer gave us a few classics involving death including The Irish Ballad and Poisoning Pigeons in the Park.

We will all go together when we go.

Johnny Cash did a few about death - not sure if he wrote all of them but:

And most obviously his cover of NIN's Hurt:

Then you've John Lennon's cheery little ditty:

You can forgive a guy a mediocre death disc when he has great pop star hair, right:

That strangely reminds me of this

A tear of petrol is in your eye,
Quick, let's make love before you die
On warm leatherette.

A bit before some of y'all's time, sadly.  Ahh yes, driving around Michigan with this in the cassette deck...
You won't understand a word.....you weren't supposed to.  It's Danzig ffs.

"Killed a girl on lovers' lane
I kept her toes and teeth
Every night I stalk around until I find my keep
I'll bring back a souvenir
For it's my mommy's dream

Can I go out and kill tonight, kill tonight"

Having reminded myself of this thread, here's a tragic tale from Edith Piaf.  Do listen right to the shattering end.
