George G. Klein, an American veteran who for decades has been hailed as a hero who took part in the D-Day landings, has revealed he is nothing more than a fraud. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Légion d'Honneur for his 'bravery', although at age 96 he has admitted he made the whole thing up and was in fact in Northern Ireland at the time of D-Day. The story is covered by The Telegraph, and so he perhaps may gain coverage in the British press when he goes.

Prominent nuclear disarmament campaigner Sumiteru Taniguchi, who was delivering mail in Nagasaki when the United States dropped an atomic bomb in 1945, died on Wednesday aged 88.

Taniguchi, once considered a front-runner for the Nobel Peace Prize, died of cancer at a hospital in the southwestern Japanese city, according to Nihon Hidankyo, a group that represents survivors of the atomic bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima.  The then-postman, aged only 16 when the attack happened in the closing days of World War 2, suffered horrific burns to his back and left arm that took years to heal properly. He had been riding his bicycle some 1.8 kilometres from the epicentre of the blast.

Wonder if they're going to cremate him?  The postman always burns twice...

Captain David Tibbs, a British veteran, died aged 97 earlier this month. He has been featured by both the BBC and The Telegraph, whilst also releasing his memoirs a couple of years ago.

His daughter is novelist Barbara Erskine, who drew on his experiences for her novel 'The Darkest Hour'.

Mitchell Flint, an American Navy fighter pilot during WWII, has died aged 94. After WWII, he helped form the Israeli Air Force and served during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.

Never mind pointing out he is West Point's oldest graduate.  About the only reason his obit was noticeable.
He also loved golfing and designed a course in Pennsylvania, and actively golfed until five years ago (age 100).

Dead at 95.

Now the Oldest Living USMA Graduate is COL Kermit R. Dyke USAF, Retired, Class of 1940. He is 103 years old.  IF William Ely doesn't get a QO you can ignore.  If he does, you can ignore at your peril.
