Eccentric inventor buissnessman and self proclaimed king of infomercials Ron Popeil has signed off at 86. https://www.tmz.com/2021/07/28/ron-popeil-dead-dies-infomercial/

But wait, there's no more!

He never made the "and its goodnight" team as I never realised until earlier this year that he was the Ron of Ronco.

Reports filtering through that Albert Bandura, an apparent giant in the field of psychology and DDP Pick 2021, has died at the age of 95:

Third hit for my B-team..... which was actually just me trying to get as many unique picks as I could, and has ended up being exactly as (un)successful as my A team.

Still can't find a link as confirmation for Bandura, even though literally thousands of ppl have paid tribute on social media. Very strange.

Strange, I agree. Seemingly no real announcements or obituaries. It’s particularly odd that neither Stanford University nor the American Psychological Association have acknowledged anything as of yet.

The Corby trouser press is dead. Seen them many times but never used one. Heard they were good for keeping toast warm.  Peter Corby, inventor of the famous electric trouser press that became a fixture in hotel rooms across the globe – obituary (msn.com)

I used one once, not overly impressed with the results but that may have been* operator error.

I don’t know why, but I’d always thought they were named after the town.

*almost certainly was

Me too.

Always imagined some news report....

Andrew Smith - BBC business news

There's absolutely nothing remarkable about the town of Corby in Northamptonshire, but they do have some sharp creases in their trousers in that part of the world so they look good in meetings even if nobody knows what the meetings are about since nothing is made in Corby.

*I also found them useless and for the same reason - this'd be fine if my trousers already had a crease because then I wouldn't have to spent 30 minutes trying to line them up correctly to put a crease where there isn't quite one, and not end up with wonky looking legs.

Austrian weapons manufacturer Gaston Glock seems to be in good health and really close to his daughter (who has a gun in about every second instagram post):

Edit: No, that's actually his current wife, Kathrin Glock.

Sad news. Was he picked by anyone in the Derby Dead Pool?

Picked by Coffin Fit and Trojan Hearse (2 teams).

Sad news. I genuinely thought he'd age gracefully into becoming a DL mainstay one day.

I'd heard rumours that he was seriously ill -  hence I had him in my shortlist for next year's DDP.
