Been holding off myself on reporting on this one until something more concrete came.

 

It's been about 24 hours since I saw the first post and none of the usual chess sources have mentioned it.

UK grandmaster Nigel Short is now trying to become the boss of the World Chess Organization FIDE and is now up against a crony of the current FIDE boss Ilyumzhinov (Russian) and "the other Russian" Arkady Dvorkovich, a former Kremlin aide:

Czech-American chess player Lubomir Kavalek, who won national championships in both countries, died at 77 years:

He was awarded both the International Master and International Grandmaster titles by FIDE in 1965 and he was inducted into the World Chess Hall of Fame in 2001.

Coach of Nigel Short in the past...so surely will get an obit . Ive spent the last week or so researching my favorite sport . I may well finally lose my DDP Theme cherry in 2022.....but Kavalek was well off the radar to be honest...
