The Dead Of 2011

Recommended Posts

DDP pick Bill Boddy died today aged 98 - http://www.motorsportmagazine.co.uk/2011/0...-mbe-1913-2011/ - apt timing on a pretty bad day for journalism all round.... Unique hit for the DDP motor racing team should there be an obit - but as he's a journo of 81 years service and the broadsheets normally honour their own, he should get 8 points.

In fairness, I haven't been around here all that much in the past months. I actually have a life! :)

How about the current Earl of Harewood? Son of Princess Mary the former Princess Royal, daughter of the late King George V.

He recently had a heart operation (don't ask me of the details) and is over 80 years of age.

George Lascelles, the 7th Earl of Harewood, who was 46th in line to the throne, has died. He was also the President of Leeds United FC and had been since 1961.

Gerry Blacklock OBE, another WW2 veteran in the Telegraph obits. Dead a wee while before they ran it, mind, which gives hope to a few DLers still awaiting the words to give them vital points.

Aha, he was involved in a bit of history I'm rather interested in:

After the German invasion of Norway he attacked Stavanger airfield, and on May 10 bombed the recently captured airfield at Rotterdam.

A glider pilot and friend of mine once told me that his aeroclub's club house and hangar at Waalhaven Airport was bombed that day. While the Lufwaffe bombed the field early in the morning, it was an RAF raid that did for the club's fleet.

regards,

Hein
