Things To Do While Waiting For Death

Interestingly, there are more people alive who appeared on Now 1 than Now 23.

Or I should say, there have been fewer deaths from those on Now 1. Afaik.

The most recent edition with a dead artist is... Now 98.

Charles (off of And Eddie), Bob Marley, George Michael, Erma Franklin, John Lee Hooker, Michael Hutchence (off of INXS), Roy Orbison, Freddie Mercury, Paul Hester (off of Crowded House) - that's quite a lot of deados on Now 23.

How perfect, then, that 'Alive & Kicking' by Simple Minds features on it.

Added a deado (cheers msc)

Ah, yer Avicii?

I *think*  Now 24 is the earliest without a dead artist.   Forgot about one of the Sisters Sledge.

I *think* Now 28 is the earliest without a dead artist.

Also Paul Hester, drummer for Crowded House.

Hmm Roger Dinsdale performed the banjo part on The Grid's Swamp Thing. Dinsdale died in 2009.

Does that cause issues for Now 28?

Blimey. Well then Boyzone show up (plus folk like Aliyah, TLC and yer Georgie boy) so... Now 47?

I haven't a clue who most of the people on that one are.

You're thinking of Architects. They're a hardcore metallic band; Architechs are a UK garage band from the late 90s and they're still going.

Right, after much searching, Mark Spoon of Storm - Time To Burn died of a heart attack in 2006. So we are out on Now 47.

Now 99 is going to be the furthest one with everyone alive, isn’t it?

You may be right!

Mind you, getting into "well out of my sphere of knowledge" and "Can't be arsed Wiki-ing them" territory.

Afraid it's a no for Now 55 - Just remembered that Feeder drummer Jon Lee topped himself, Wiki confirmed, in 2002.

Looks like it might be Now 57?

Kool and The Gang re-recorded and were featured on Atomic Kitten's version of Ladies Night, Almost certainly therefore it would have included Claydes Charles Smith, guitarist for the band, who died in 2006.

I've just went through Now 70-99 and it doesn't look pretty, but that's mainly because of dead singers being dug up. The italicised names are people who died after their song was featured.

70 - 1 dead (Gene Kelly)

71 - 1 dead (Stephen Gately from Boyzone)

72 - 1 dead (Robin Gibb)

73 - all alive

74 - 2 dead (Whitney Houston and Frankie Knuckles)

75 - all alive

76 - all alive

77 - all alive

78 - all alive

79 - all alive

80 - 2 dead (Clarence Clemons [recorded new music then died]; Avicii)
81 - 2 dead (Etta James; Avicii)

82 - all alive

83 - all alive
84 - 2 dead (Avicii; Paul Baümer from Bingo Players)

85 - all alive

86 - 1 dead (Avicii)

87 - all alive
88 - 1 dead (Michael Jackson)
89 - 1 dead (Simone Battle from G.R.L. [suicide after single was released])
90 - 1 dead (Avicii)
91 - 1 dead (Avicii)

92 - all alive
93 - 1 dead (David Bowie)
94 - 4 dead (Viola Beach)
95 - 1 dead (Bob Marley)
96 - 1 dead (George Michael)
98 - 1 dead (Avicii)

99 - all alive

I shall up my initial offer to Now 62.

There's quite a lot of dog eggs on that album.

I find it hard to challenge Now 62.

I think and hope we are there!

Actually I just had a horrible feeling and I was right.

Gustavo Lezcano played on Miami Sound Machine's Dr Beat and therefore the mash-up must include him. Lezcano died in 2014.

@The Quim Reaper, wanna try again?
