Things To Do While Waiting For Death

Aye, but then we have the shocking twist when the Queen herself comes over for a quick chat with Spade at the stall, only to say "You jammy sod with Salhana, one was on course for a fourth DDP win!" :D

I see the lunatic got let out of the asylum, for his sentence is etched upon the institute, and when he wakes he shall annul the sins for which he belies responsibility. A shame forthwith he diatribes to the oblivious through medium of dance and word as if he's fallen for the bird.

Empower yourself with knowledge about who to call, should you ever encounter any emergency involving a sheep.

How many historic British figures can you identify?

http://offbeat.topix.com/quiz/17270/qidx1

Aimed at Americans so it's a tad easy, but I still couldn't get all of them.

"Which ancient British queen is this, Boudicca or Cleopatra?" Riiight.

They are on thin ice with James Joyce and Oscar Wilde as "British icons".

Oh, and they spelled the Duke of Edinburgh's name wrong.

I missed a few of the early royalty ones but bar that it was a cakewalk. When one of the choices on a question is Gloria Steinem and it's a quiz about Brits, that kind of narrows it down doesn't it?

I got bored after a few, but every one can be got from being obvious, the way the question is phrased, or the obviously wrong answers!

Very thin ice suggesting Margaret Thatcher might be an 'iconic humanitarian'!

From what I remember it was Diana they suggested was an iconic humanitarian not Thatcher, not taking the whole quiz again to find out though.

No need to take the whole quiz, just the first 42 questions!

Thought this was more appropriate here than in the Anniversary thread.

Sir Basil Spence put down his theodolite for good this day 40 years ago, aged 67. If you're interested he was responsible for propagating the brutalist style of architecture and designed the new Coventry cathedral.

Basil_Spence.jpg

Ah yes, the brains behind Hutchesontown C Block.

8euw4u1.jpg

In the midst of the mass "demolish all the poor peoples houses" Gorbals craze of the 1950s-70s, Spence was brought in to deal with C, which lasted until 1993. Structural issues, and continual damp. When it were demolished, the debris hit and killed a woman.

Still, could be worse. He could have designed Hutchesontown E. Most of which lasted barely a decade due to structure issues, and the two survivors, the Sandiefield flats, were demolished in 2013 to much joy.

At least nothing of interest got demolished for this folly.

Roughly the same spot in August 2016.

Anyhow, this is here because there's a collection of nice Old Glasgow photos from the 1970s on Urban Glasgow. Could take up a few minutes. Or not.
