Just another quiet weekend in my part of the world: a chef goes mad, chops up his transgender girlfriend in his apartment, cooks parts of her, is chased by police (when they eventually discover what he has done), hides himself in a rubbish bin in a street and then chops himself up: http://www.abc.net.a...-murder/5792036

His Facebook page says he was opposed to violence against women but if she was transgender, maybe technically she didn't count.

The local Murdoch rag is suggesting the chef was also a male prostitute: http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/killer-chef-marcus-volke-worked-as-sex-worker-before-murdering-wife-at-teneriffe/story-fnihsrf2-1227083265281

That online version is tame. The headline on the print version is "Psycho Gigolo!"

German chef Gerd Käfer has died of lung cancer at 82:

http://www.zeit.de/wirtschaft/2015-05/gerd-kaefer-tot-feinkost-muenchen-oktoberfest

He became a member, and cook, for the high society of Munich and eventually, a major caterer at the Oktoberfest. Another article mentions that he invented party-catering (for germans). Among his customers were also Mikhail Gorbachov and Queen Elizabeth II.

What is a "mountain drainage"? Not a term familiar to most UK readers, I bet, and a good journalist would explain what it meant.

It's what happens after drinking a Mountain Dew.

It's a bad idea to start a quarrel with a cook: s/he is armed with knives and knows how to use them.

True- I was once chased out of a steakhouse by an ex-military chef wielding a meat cleaver.

Kerry Simon, former 'Iron Chef' champ and frequent cook for rock bands like Led Zeppelin and Mötley Crue, has died at 60 of multiple system atrophy:

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/iron-chef-champ-dead-60-article-1.2359261

I thought that had been posted some time ago. I recall making the comment it's the 5th 'Simon' surname to die this year.

Maybe I dreamed all of it. Maybe it was on my DP, I dunno.

Not exactly sure where to put this....but here is close enough.

Connoisseurs of Southern comfort foods are mourning the death of the woman who ran Leatha's Bar-B-Que Inn here. Bonnie Jackson, 57, died Tuesday of a massive heart attack, a family member said. Leatha’s was featured on an episode of Man Food Fire on the Cooking Channel for the amazing ribs, and it is one of the stops on the Mississippi Culinary Trail on VisitMississippi.org.

Not much of an endorsement for Southern comfort foods...

A Michelin-starred chef has died at the age of 32, just two days before his restaurant was named as one of the best in the UK.

Jonray Sanchez-Iglesias, who ran Casamia in Bristol with his brother Peter, died on Friday following a four-year battle with skin cancer.

Days later, the much-lauded restaurant was named by the Sunday Times as the fourth best in the country.

Excuse me waiter---there's some skin cancer in my soup.

I am French Canadian so I don't have a clue. However... I know that Star Trek wasn't a big thing in France and that originally, no major French TV channels acquired the rights for the show. Also a fun fact... Star Trek was never dubbed in France French. In fact, the only French dubbing of Star Trek was done in Quebec French. Therefore, when Star Trek started airing in France in the early 80s, it was dubbed in Quebec French which is quite unusual.. usually it's the opposite.

Cheers. Didn't realise you were a Québécois. From what I read on another board recently, the French liked Space: 1999 more for its philosophical aspects and X-FIles for its supernatural side. They apparently also like fantasy like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings more than "pure sf" like Trek. That being the case, I don't know why they didn't like Dr Who then unless it was simply too British for 'em.
