Wait.

So the dessert was invented by his missus and one of his workers? And he took the credit? Actually, this technically makes him fringes of fame!

French chef Francis Darroze has died last week at the age of 90. One week later, on Friday, his own brother and chef Claude has also died, aged 80. They used to work together and were well known in the south of France and in their field apparently, mostly because Francis’ daughter is the famous (in France at least) Helene Darroze, « chef étoilée » and judge in « Top Chef » (the equivalent of Masterchef here).

Hélène Darroze is a big name here. She has a top restaurant at the Connaught in London and lives two weeks per month in the city.

Quite controversial I believe. She was slaughtered by the critics when she first took over at the Connaught.

Sally Schmitt, who with her husband, Don, opened the French Laundry, the now famous restaurant in the Napa Valley of California, in 1978, and in doing so helped solidify the valley as a food-and-wine destination and start a culinary movement built on seasonal local ingredients, died on Saturday at her home in Philo, Calif. She was 90.

Her family announced her death, which came just weeks before publication of her memoir and cookbook, “Six California Kitchens: A Collection of Recipes, Stories, and Cooking Lessons From a Pioneer of California Cuisine.”

Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers reveals he has cancer

(article currently free to read)

Hairy Biker’s star Dave Myers has revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

The 64-year-old found fame as one half of the cooking duo, alongside friend and fellow chef Si King.

He said his prognosis was “ok” but warned fans that he may be a “baldy biker” while he was having treatment.

Speaking on the Hairy Bikers - Agony Uncles podcast, alongside 55-year-old Mr King, Mr Myers spoke openly about his diagnosis.

He said: "I've got to come clean now, I haven't been too well recently and, basically, I've got to have some chemo so this year is going to be a bit quiet for me.

“I'm not going to be filming, some of the festivals I'm not going to be able to go to, some may be OK but this year's a bit of a write-off for us."

He asked listeners to respect his privacy while he undergoes treatment, saying: "I have had to speak up about this because I don't want to hide under a rock.

"I would love it if people respected my privacy and just let me get on with it and give Si and our team all the support they need, that would be great.

“But look, the prognosis is OK, I'm going to be fine."

He added: "I've just got to tuck in, look after myself, eat sensibly and get over this mess, flog books, and be a happy person so, within that, that's where I am.

"I may be a baldy biker for a while so it's just a warning, I don't want to make a fuss about it, I look all right bald actually."

Mr Myers did not specify the type of cancer he is suffering from.

He has previously spoken about his health struggles, including discovering he had glaucoma - an eye condition that can lead to blindness.

In 2018 Mr Myers revealed he had originally dismissed the condition as a bad hangover.

After meeting in 1995, Mr Myers and Mr King gained popularity as the Hairy Bikers, with Mr Myers later appearing on Strictly Come Dancing.

Hate it when ppl say that. “One of the first”. It means nothing. Could mean she was the first, could mean she was one of the first 10, 20, 30. Always left wanting to know who the first actually was…
