https://www.newsday.com/amp/entertainment/tv/carol-silva-news-12-cancer-1.37397729. Carol Silva has stage 4 cancer. Another possible DDP or Deathrace pick.

Maybe so, but maybe not immediately:
"She received some good news Thursday — the tumors in her brain had disappeared, although "we won't know [for certain] until I go in for an MRI in a couple of weeks."  Silva has been off the air the past three weeks  but says she hopes to rejoin her broadcast shortly."

Kathryn Johnson, a trailblazing reporter for The Associated Press whose intrepid coverage of the civil rights movement and other major stories led to a string of legendary scoops, died Wednesday. She was 93.

Her niece, Rebecca Winters, said Johnson died Wednesday morning in Atlanta. Johnson was the only journalist allowed inside Martin Luther King Jr.’s home the day he was assassinated. When Gov. George Wallace blocked black students from entering the University of Alabama, she sneaked in to cover his confrontation with federal officials. She scored exclusive interviews with 2nd Lt. William L. Calley Jr. before he was convicted of his role in the My Lai massacre.

One is always too late on this platform. If I were famous, deathlist.net would know about my death before I did.

Sounds like it could have been known to some of us, I was not aware.

Very sad, I think she has a young family too as I remember her reporting on election night 2005 while heavily pregnant.

Richard Lindley, BBC and ITN correspondent obituary: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/obituaries/2019/11/19/richard-lindley-dashing-television-reporter-inquisitor-itn-bbc/

Can only find a clipped clip of his Panorama interview with John Nott on the Falklands in 1982. However, in these feverish times of election, here is the News at Ten reporting on the Blair landslide of 1997. Lindley voiceovers the Lib-Dem gains about 11 minutes? in. Worth watching for THE Portillo moment and Chris Leslie's victory over Sir Marcus Fox - the political equivalent of your grandad getting a kicking from a teenager.

Frank Giles, who was Editor of the Sunday Times (1981–1983) and before that, Deputy Editor (1967–1981) has died aged 100.

Nice tribute from Popbitch:

Quote

Popbitch wasn’t the first to start peeking at celebrity penises. All we’ve been doing is carrying a flame that was passed down from our forebears, including the recently deceased Frank Giles: former editor of the Sunday Times and one of the UK’s trailblazing cockwatchers.

Among the celebrity schlongs he managed to spot in his career, Giles counts some of the greats. He got a glimpse of the Duke Of Windsor, Edward VIII, in the shower and noticed that he was sporting a full Hollywood (“[hairless] even in places where one would most expect it to be”).

And he once got chatting to Ernest Bevin at the urinal, who famously said to him, mid-flow “This is it, Giles. The socialist dream. The means of production, in the hands of the people.”

A reminder that my 2014 DDP survivor, journalist Chris Moncrieff, is soon to be 88 and still with us. Highly obitable when he goes, and looked on his last legs after a 60 year career of heavy drinking back then. Although he still gives talks and semi-regular articles for the Northern Echo.

True story about him, oft retold. He was chasing a story down in N Ireland in the early 80s, by which I mean boozing. The masked men come into the pub and announce the pub has a bomb set to go off in half an hour. Chris turns round and the entire pub has just emptied, but he thought: "Oh well, if the pubs exploding in 30 minutes, that's plenty of time for one more pint of Guinness." Asked later how he felt, he said "I was pissed off. The bomb didn't go off for another hour, there'd been time for two pints had I known!"

The unflappable Chris Moncrieff has died aged 88.
