I use the term 'journalist' loosely and with wreckless disregard, but uber popular American TV host John Stossel has lung cancer. May he die as miserable a death as our health care system will allow.

Kinda feel I could become the "dying journalist" guy on these forums. Guardian hack Simon Ricketts has thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, which means he has little chance of making it past more than a decade and, if his upcoming operation isn't a success, he could be out for the count within the next few months.

Four years later, hospitalised for bowel cancer.

Latest from Rowena Kincaid's Facebook:

Hello Everybody,
This is a message posted on behalf of Row, who's a bit under the weather at the moment.
On Tuesday, struggling to breath, Row was taken to hospital where she was diagnosed with pneumonia. She's now on a course of antibiotics and seems to be making progress. She's going to be kept in hospital for a few more days, but is hoping to be discharged next week.
She wants to thank those who've noticed that she's been quiet of late and to reassure you all that she's resting and recuperating as per the doctor's orders. Hopefully she'll be back on here soon.
HUGS AND LOVE TO YOU WONDER WOMAN!!
Team Row xxx

David Gilkey (50) of National Public Radio (NPR) and Zabihullah Tamanna (38) were travelling with the Afghan army when they came under fire and their vehicle was hit by a shell.

The attack also killed the driver of the vehicle, an Afghan soldier.

Two other NPR employees travelling with the pair were unharmed, the US public radio network said in a statement.

Laura Marquez joined San Francisco ABC7 News in 1989, just before the Loma Prieta Earthquake. She was one of first reporters on the scene in San Francisco's Marina District, not knowing she was one of those who had lost her home.

She died today after a 16-year battle with cancer.

The other week I was watching a vintage PBS documentary about the 1906 earthquake (narrated by F MURRAY ABRAHAM) and the ironic thing I found out at the end credits, it was produced in 1988, just before the next one!

Here's an update on Rowena's health.

Row left hospital last week and went home for a few days R&R. Unfortunately, she hadn't quite shaken off the pneumonia and so was readmitted yesterday. She's asked me to post this picture and to let you know that she can't wait to get better as she has lots to share, but has been too exhausted to write anything lately.

Here's to kicking pneumonia's ass second time round!

Sending you all our love Row

And now Jack Fuller, ex-Tribune editor, is dead at 69.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/obituaries/ct-jack-fuller-dead-20160621-story.html

The Trib takes another one on the chin as former investigative reporter William Gaines, who twice shared a Pulitzer Prize while at the Chicago Tribune, has died. Gaines' daughter, Michelle, says the 82-year-old Gaines died in hospice care in Munster, Indiana, on Wednesday. She said he suffered from Parkinson's disease for 15 years.
