All over Twitter, death of former Nuts editor-at-large, longtime Guardian/Guardian guide contributor and former Countdown champion Pete Cashmore. A man I had many enjoyable conversations with and was proud to call a friend and inspiration. His suicide, frankly, doesn’t come as a surprise and hopefully he’s at peace writing 60-word takedowns of Paolo Nutini singles in the afterlife now.

TV critic Sarah Hughes talks about Games of Thrones and her stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis...

Very sad to read that, I enjoy Sarah's reviews and she is always willing to engage with readers.  She seems like a lovely genuine person.  Had no idea she'd had two stillborn babies in two years - how dreadful.

So back in 1963, JFK had a bad day in Dallas, you might have heard, and Lyndon Johnson wound up sworn in as President. Three journalists were onboard Air Force One to witness the oath, and 2 are long dead. But one of them is ex-NBC News journo Sid Davis (b 1927) who is still alive! But has no Wiki. I found this out in a doc on the new Freeview Smithsonian channel - and they say TV isn't good for DP research.

Thing on him from last year

Biography

Btw he looked frail as fuck talking about Jackie Kennedy, and is notable enough for any American obit accepting pool imo. Or Cup.

Bearing in mind your sig, probably worth mentioning that Orson Welles performance of Clarence Darrow (Compulsion, 1959) was an early imspiration.

Don Banks, a longtime NFL writer and reporter, died on Sunday at the age of 56. He was in Canton, Ohio this weekend covering the Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony.

Banks was hired by the Las Vegas Review-Journal in July to cover the NFL. He was in Canton covering the Hall of Fame ceremony along with the Hall of Fame game on Thursday night between the Atlanta Falcons and the Denver Broncos. Banks’ first project with the Review-Journal was published on Sunday morning. It was about how “Hard Knocks” impacted the 2018 Cleveland Browns. This piece lets you behind the scenes and gives an inside look to aspects that are not normally seen.

Banks was one of the most respected reporters out there. He spent 17 years as a reporter for Sports Illustrated. Most recently, Banks spent time at The Athletic and Patriots.com. He spent the 2016 season as a contributor to NFL.com. Banks also covered the Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers for 10 years.
