Comedians & Comedy Writers

Fox News has a different take, quoting the longetivity of US comedians. Which list shall form the basis of my DDP team next year, if I'm spared myself of course. http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2015/03/13/want-to-know-secret-to-long-life-keep-laughing/

That used to be my team name.

Where's does that phrase come from?

I'm Scottish, something my grannies used to say, origin tho, dunno.

Yes, it's something old people used to say, like a sort of superstitious insurance policy.

My new team name is a standard Irish condolence phrase, used when addressing the recently bereaved. I like the way it treats death as a minor inconvenience, like a flat tyre or a broken-down tractor. :P

"Tom Koch, a creator of the vexingly convoluted game of 43 man Squamish for Mad magazine and unheralded author of thousands of comedy scripts for Bob and Ray radio programs that in his words parodied “pompous versions of real people,” died on March 22 at his home in Laguna Woods, Calif. He was 89." http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/02/arts/tom-koch-comedy-writer-for-bob-and-ray-dies-at-89.html?_r=0

Michael Palin and Ronnie Corbett were out yesterday promoting the new series of stamps featuring comedians from our point of view a mixture of live and dead ones.

If true, a crying shame. I remember him from Tutti Frutti in particular, but he always seems to have been around.

I used to know the girl that played his still game onscreen wife, and she would talk about having to go to his local in Kilmarnock so they could appear as a couple

American comedian and writer Phil Austin, dead at 74:

http://dangerousminds.net/comments/nick_danger_rip_firesign_theatres_phil_austin_1941_2015

He was a member of the comedy troupe The Firesign Theatre, mainly known for their comedy recordings.

I knew none of the individual members by name but Firesign Theatre was funny as hell. RIP

David Nobbs, writer for many things but best known for The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin, has died according to John Cleese. https://twitter.com/JohnCleese/status/630467448156880896 He was 80.

Edit: BBC have it now. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-33843336

Think I prefer Fairly Secret Army to Reggie Perrin, but hey.

I'm hearing of the demise of Alex Howden, though can't find confirmation yet.

Gangs of New York? Paaaaah!

Best remembered for the Granton Star Cause...

I do wish that Twitter would stop using pictures of Tony Hall when they are talking about BBC cuts because at first glance I think that Roy Walker has just died.

I was also baffled by their constant use of his face (on the website that is). I want them to stop just cause... y'know, he's a pile of piss. Why they wanna keep making people look at his gormless "only guy who was enough of a schlub to wanna take this job***" face, when they're trying to remind everyone how much of a "national treasure" the Beeb is, shows how clueless they are.

*** If you think about it he's like the broadcasting equivalent of David Moyes.

Couldn't sleep, so thought I'd do a list again.

With the loss of both Gary Owens and Judy Carne this year from Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, I thought I'd conjure up a list of those survivors who appeared in the show as credited regular or guest performers who appeared as such in more than one episode. It does not include people who appeared as characters they created elsewhere, and it does not include people who appeared as themselves.

The list has been taken from IMDB in order of most appearances to least, with a little help from Wiki and Google, so the usual disclaimers apply and as always, any constructive comment to flesh out the list is appreciated. Here are your surviving stars:

Ruth Buzzi (b. 1936)

Arte Johnson (b. 1929)

Lily Tomlin (b. 1939)

Jo Anne Worley (b. 1937)

Goldie Hawn (b. 1945)

Johnny Brown (b. 1937)

Barbara Sharma (b. 1942)

Ann Elder (b. 1942)

Pamela Rodgers (b. 1944)

Chelsea Brown (b. 1947; d. 2017)

Harvey Jason (b. 1940)

Moosie Drier (b. 1964)

Tod Bass (b. 1964)

Brian Bressler (b. ?) Still alive according to this article from June 2015: http://www.oregonlive.com/hg/index.ssf/2015/06/_40million-dollar_floating_house.html

Patti Deutsch (b. 1943; d. 2017)

Lisa Farringer (b. ?) Status Unknown

Sarah Kennedy (b. ?) Became a children's author, current status unknown (not the UK Sarah Kennedy).

Willie Tyler (b. 1940)

Sweet Dick Whittington (b. 1934)

Mitzi McCall (b. 1932)

Charlie Brill (b. 1938)

Roddy Maude-Roxby (b. 1930)

Chris Bearde (b. 1936; d. 2017)

Inga Neilsen (b. 1940)

Kaye Ballard (b. 1925; d. 2019)
