One that went unnoticed at the time, even by the usually excellent Cricketer magazine: NZ keeper-batsman Graham 'Jock' Edwards, on 6 April. Big Jock played two Tests in England in 1978 but in a wet summer his agricultural approach was ineffective and he was replaced behind the sticks by opening batsman Bruce Edgar for the last Test.

I'd like to have seen an agricultural approach to wicket-keeping...

TomTomTelekom posted this in the Coronavirus thread but I feel it should also be in the cricket thread here
Chetan Chauhan, former India opener, dies aged 73 from multiple organ failure after contracting COVID-19.  Played 40 tests from 1969 to 1981, majority of them in the late seventies as the opening partner to batting legend Sunil Gavaskar.  Chauhan was the first test cricketer to finish his career with over 2000 runs without a test century, with only Shane Warne having a similar record.  After retirement from cricket he entered politics, twice being elected to India’s lower House of Parliament in the nineties and also served as a cabinet minister in his home state of Uttar Pradesh.

Australian Cricket Legend Dean Jones Dies In Mumbai aged 59.     https://www.outlookindia.com/website/story/sports-news-australian-cricket-legend-dean-jones-dead/360836

Shocking and clearly very sudden as he was posting on Twitter only yesterday. Apparently it was a very sudden heart attack in his Mumbai hotel room where he was commentating on the IPL.

And yet Eileen Ash carries on and on & will be 109 next month. Surely a very real chance of being a rare famous super centenarian? She is believed to be the only international cricketer still alive whose life overlapped that of W G Grace who died in 1915. (born in 1848)

For me it's weird to think that Dean Jones has died before the likes of Neil Harvey, Bobby Simpson and Bill Lawry who are from a much earlier era. Plus the entire Australian 1981 Ashes squad (many of whom had ended their careers by the time Jones played Tests) have outlived Jones. The Reaper moves in mysterious ways.

I thought Dean Jones had already died for some reason, one of cricket's numerous early deaths. Very sad news.

Jones was always extremely fit during his playing days but , like so many, upon retirement he decided that eating cake instead of going to the gym was the way to go

Eileen Ash will be 109 on 30 October (2020). Not surprisingly she is the oldest ever international cricketer. She was around 4 years old when W G Grace died. As he was born in 1848 that is quite a link to the past.

And she'll be around 109 and 62 days when she has the last laugh at my attempts to win the HPDP

Happy 109th birthday  today to Eileen Ash (nee Whelan). She is a genuine link to the past as the first of her 7 Test matches for England was in 1937 - only 83 years ago! She is the only living cricketer whose life overlaps that of W G Grace who died in 1915  - the last known photo of him is a few weeks before his death at a cricket match (spectating of course!) putting money in a Red Cross collecting box.

The Cowdrey family do not appear to have great genes. Colin lived to be 67, Graham 56. Chris Cowdrey is 63 and still batting.

Well, Graham's fall into unemployment and homelessness likely didn't help

Died of sepsis - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8941093/Tragic-tale-death-Graham-Cowdrey-aged-56.html
