I'm deeply touched by the death of one of my all-time-favourite German actresses: Irm Hermann.

In the 70s she rose to fame because of her workings with Rainer Werner Fassbinder.

Later she emancipated herself from Fassbinder and became a renowned and award winning actress in her own way.

She was 77 years old and died after a short illness.

:(

She would have received a QO:

The Fassbinder connection...

I liked her too, always thought she had a good range as an actress.

Did the dirty on Mary Roos too, which is why her performance of 'Aufrecht Geh'n' at the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest is interesting to watch when you know the background to why she seemed so distracted*.

*She found out that Böhm's mistress was expecting his child shortly before.

Yes, but the color of her dress also contributed to the fact that her appearance was not so well received. Nude look was apparently not so popular ...

The song deserved a better placement imo.

I liked her dress! Quite a natty off-the-shoulder look.

Mind you, as this is what we dressed like, I can't really comment too much...

After I wasted several Cup slots and a Hare's slot on him, I gave up. But sometimes a little more patience pays off.

Here is a list of surviving People's Artists of the USSR. Remarkably, they all they all tend to receive an obituary in their home country (and usually one in Russia too). Many of these, particularly the Russians, are still popular and prominent even today. After the fall of the Soviet Union they remained well connected and some went into politics themselves. You'll often see them at photoshoots with Vladimir Putin or waving Russian flags at events in support of the annexation of Crimea.

Although not included here, Nikolai Fadeyechev, who has died at age 87, is being credited with having been a People's Artist of the USSR

I think there are a few folk missing from it. Vera Alentova and Vladimir Menshov seem to missing too and the likely would get obits.

Edit - I am mistaken , they  got the People's Artist of Russia Award which came later.

Here is one from the category "I did not know, that he was still alive":

Claus Biederstaedt, actor in several movies of the post WWII-era has now died at the age of 92. He mostly played young guys with even younger girlfriends and later, he was seen as middle-aged man, who dated young girls.

I saw him last time in a comedy play years ago, when he was playing a frail grampa married to a young girl.

Chinese actress Yu Lan finally dead at 99. It leaves Qin Yi as the only surviving 50s superstar. Also Wei Wei had a decent start but it did not last.
