Was on my radar since around a week ago when I was reading on some Ryuichi Sakamoto-related people and saw the part of his wikipedia page saying he had a brain tumor in 2020 but underwent treatment, surgeries and it was "removed". Cause of death mentioned as brain cancer.

Michio Ariyoshi, Japanese professional Shogi player (Japanese chess) dead at 87 from aspiration pneumonia. As far as I know at the time of his death he was the oldest professional Shogi player with an English wiki page.

...

Searched the professional Shogi players born 1940 and before on the Japanese wiki, found a few more:

Kazuhisa Ōmura (1928-, ja wiki) The oldest professional Shogi player. Was already very frail in 2018.

Yukio Miyasaka (1929-, ja wiki) Most recent public appearance was in 2016 as far as I know. Also played normal chess.

Kazuhisa Ōmura, oldest professional Shogi player, dead at 94 from heart failure. Yukio Miyasaka is now the oldest one.

That 83-year-old Shogi professional/pool pick Hifumi Kato has an interesting Twitter account. (https://twitter.com/hifumikato) He loves food and cats and uses a lot of emojis.

Picked her for the DDP with my Zero Hit's Wishlist Team

Would be shocking if she didn't get a qualifying obit, due to her final film "Poetry" winning a major award at Cannes.

Suprised Juraj Jakubisko isn't more talked here. He had a heart transplant over a decade ago after suffering a heart attack and other problems, then broke his leg. In 2021 he spent two months in serious condition with covid and a kidney disease.

Former Siphofaneni (Swaziland) Member of Parliament (MP) Gundwane Gamedze is late. (Ha ha what a fine headline)

His sudden death, after a short illness, sent shockwaves among  the people of Siphofaneni and close acquaintances, who took to social media to mourn the former legislator and businessman’s demise. His brother, Richard Gamedze, confirmed the death yesterday afternoon but asked that the family be given a chance to meet and issue an official statement. It was established that Gundwane  died while admitted to Sithobelweni Clinic yesterday. Though some said he died from a sudden heart attack, this could not be immediately confirmed by the family yesterday.

China's CCTV has been producing a series on elderly Chinese famous/mildly interesting people. Called "My Home and My Country" or something similar, in Chinese 吾家吾国

Trying to make some kind of a list of those people interviewed...

30 Sept 2021: Lu Yuanjiu, b. 1920, physicist

2 Nov 2021: Zheng Xiaoying, b. 1929, conductor, first woman to be a known conductor in China

3 Nov 2021: Luan Enjie, b. 1940, Administrator of China National Space Administration 1998-2004 and politician. No English wikipedia page but has a Wikidata page.

...

1 Jan 2022: Ye Shuhua, b. 1927, astronomer known for achieving one of the world's most precise measurements of Universal Time in the 1960s, and for establishing the very-long-baseline interferometry (VLBI) and satellite laser ranging (SLR) techniques in China.

4 Jan 2022: Wang Pinxian, b. 1935, marine geologist.

5 Jan 2022: Zheng Zhenxiang, b. 1929, archaeologist who excavated the Bronze Age tomb of Fuhao.

1 Feb 2022: Lan Tianye 1927-2022, screen and stage actor. Died from pancreatic cancer months after the interview.

5 Oct 2022: Sun Ji, b. 1929, cultural relic scientist and archaeologist

6 Oct 2022: Kuang Tingyun, b. 1934, botanist.

Some of the videos can be seen here on youtube. Most of them look fine, including Pan Jiluan, suprised he died so soon after the interview. The frailest ones are in my opinion Wang Yongzhi (would've thought he was years older), Ye Minghan and Lu Yuanjiu.

For example Wang Zhenyi is impressive. Although he walks with a stick he still seems to be working at almost 98, very sharp and has a computer at home.

New episodes of this have been made.
