There's a long dark cloud pouring incessant rain on Morecambe today.

I mean, that's not exactly news - but you get where I'm going

With all due respects to some scientist who got mentioned on the news this morning Bowen's demise is seismic by comparison.

Rant over!

Ced Beaumont, who played The Captain in the first two episodes, died in 2002. John Axon played the guy who Clinton Baptiste caused an argument with his girlfriend ("Tell her before she gets hurt"), died 2008. Can't be arsed to go down the cast list any further than that.

Fun (not fun) facts: John Axon was named after his grandfather John Axon, a train driver who received a posthumous George's Cross for sacrificing his life to stop a greater disaster in a 1957 runaway freight incident. Ewan McColl wrote a radio ballad about him:

Depends on your definition but I'd say not. He was only in the first episode of Series 2 iirc, relatively big name cameo but just the one off. Main cast is different, lest we forget Ted Robbins was almost, and may still be, the first to go there.

Hawking and Bowen on same day - not surprising that Jim checked out on a double.

Such a shame. Only treble 19, 13, double 5*. No age, really.

*Yes, or 20 20 D20. Or T16 D16. Or 20 10 Bull. Or...

Surely the seasoned darts player goes 20, 20, double top, no?

You'd fit in well in the team I play for. Chalker generally has to wear body armour.

One of my favourite gameshow hosts , he didn't make bullseye about himself or smother it with a 'showbiz'  personality it was about the contestants and the game.

In tribute, I'll post the only song I know which has a reference to Bullseye. Over to you, Supergrass:

I'm struggling to get my head round Jim Bowen being only in his mid 40s when Bullseye started.
