Don't do that, then. Quoting PPPs, I mean.

It's other people that do it, though, isn't it? I mean, if I'm ignoring someone I can't quote them. But someone else will.

For example MH, if toast was on your ignore list, you would still be able to read his post in my quote bubble.

Unless I'm already on your ignore list? ;)

The site is being killed by this notaguest troll. No proper poster can be arsed to wade through his shit - it's him or us, admin.

Freedom of speech v death of site debate, I suppose.

I'm not sure if he should be banned. I just think he is over enthusiastic which, I do admit, is more than a bit annoying.

He just needs to calm down a bit.

I must admit I do sometimes feel I'm just about the only person bothering to post here.Is that my problem or the forums? I'll tell you what,I will take a break from posting for th e next few days and see if things are any better.I'm off on my summer holidays!

Take a guess... :(

More to the point: I'm well aware of the point that Toast makes. There's little I can do about it. Perhaps a feature I may suggest to the good people at IPB (the almost mythical makers of the Forum Software) is a quote blanker for people one wants to ignore. And even if they'd answer my prayers we'd still have to persuade the Boss to fork out the cost for an Upgrade. :angel2:

My medical advice wasn't only for Toast.

Hein

The only irate vistors i remember was when that snooker player died paul hunter , threats of violence i remember and not by us . Then again, I am a dozy c unt. Grab my flubber, I'm fat as you like lol

I have been a long term poster for many years now, but for fear of having my account blocked I am posting as a guest. I agree that all complaints in this section from irate visitors tend to be removed, I suspect if they either have a point we cannot respond to or make our beloved moderators appear idiotic.

I say bring them on, because I think we all agree that death is natural, and it is often quite sexy. The feel of a corpse, even the smell of a rotting child (a famous one of course lol) gets my juices flowing, and my clit engorged until it it almost two inches long. With four fingers in my pussy and two or three in my anus I strum myself silly over the death. When my cunt juice drips down to my knuckles I know I've hit the jackpot. Feels so good. The guy who said he killed his mum is my hero, and I can respect the thrill that it gives us all.

Phew - felt good to get that out of my system (I'm not just talking about my clunge mucus lol) and we should all have a collective wank like we used to back when I founded this site.

See you back out there rigamortis dicks! xxx

Next on the agenda: banning guests...

I have been a long term poster for many years now, but for fear of having my account blocked I am posting as a guest.

Allow me to comment on this.

Members' accounts are blocked every now and again, there's no denying that. To get banned you must do one of the following things:

  • Post spam
  • Harrass other members
  • Post (or PM) threats to other members

Posting material critical of DL management is not a good reason to be banned.

I agree that all complaints in this section from irate visitors tend to be removed, I suspect if they either have a point we cannot respond to or make our beloved moderators appear idiotic.

[snips]

Posts do indeed get removed from this (and other) topics1. Any Mod or Admin can do so at his or her discretion. There's no such thing as an Official Deathlist Moderation Policy. Consensus in DL management is that such a policy would be a waste of time and effort. That doesn't mean that we don't have a pretty good idea of what kind of posts are to be removed: spam is an obvious target, as are duplicate posts, posts without content or containing only quoted text. As you posted what I now reply to twice, one instance of it got binned.

Posting material that has pornographic or scatologic content is tricky. As this forum is intended for adults I expect some tolerance from the readers. For this reason the bad words filter has been removed2. On the other hand I expect a grown-up attitude from posters: don't post what you wouldn't want to read. Personally I don't care much, as it shows the mind of the pervoster better than anything else, but other Mods do. When they delete posts for that reason, I will not reverse their decision.

If you care to answer them, I have two questions for you:

  • Why is the snipped text relevant for the discussion at hand?
  • What makes you think that a post that contains the text I snipped will find wide approval by the readership?

Next on the agenda: banning guests...

Ah, now there is an interesting topic. Individual guests cannot be banned from posting, but IP addresses can be, and are. Spammers are IP banned on sight and occasionally a guest poster with a history of disruptive posting gets the same treatment. If I remember correctly this has happened twice, one of which recently, though that was not a guest.

1The logs show that in 2011 (up to October 27) six posts were deleted from this topic, including today's duplicate one.

2Although it finds a new role in marking spam.

regards,

Hein

Lol - long term poster short term guest here and I think we all saw once again posts disappearing that dared to criticise this site (ordinarily fine but the subject of this thread is so self assured it doesn't hint that most new posts the hosts can't respond to will be deleted). I think the hosts should admit that, yes, fine, many if not all of the posts added to this thread have destroyed them and they could not justify themselves.  Heck why not?  And also, yes, sex with a nice juicy corpse is delicious - like my fellow poster once pointed out "my sister died, she wasn't a celebrity but I enjoyed her passing as much as the famous people on here, fucking love that she's dead just as I predicted a couple of hours before she popped it..."  Good on him.  At least he was honest.

Sigh. Well, I took it upon myself to delete two most unpleasant posts made here in the last couple of days. Guests and members are more than welcome to share their views about this site, however the deleted posts were just a guest's graphic evocation of sexual acts with deceased people. If it makes someone happy to anonymously post stuff like that on Christmas Day, that's great, but I'm sure there are more specialised sites on the internet to deposit their vaucous, rather disturbing, drivel than DeathList.net.

 Could we just give the necrophilia discussion a rest please?

Go well.

Hi there...I just wandered onto your site. Yes, I was momentarily Googling "Deaths in 2011" - because I Google lots of stuff when I'm bored and waiting in all day for home deliveries. I think I'll add some thoughts for a second. Don't get carried away by this. I'm only offering you a very brief opinion or two - at no great hardship to myself.

Firstly, the horror of death and what it means to individuals, society and the World is a bewildering subject and should not be locked away as a taboo. But, you know, you can discuss the subject intensively and intellectually without turning it into a silly game show. You can be broadminded or glib without (presumably) upsetting the understandable sensitivities of the majority of people likely to wander upon your site. If only this wasn't presented so pathetically, it could serve a real purpose: past the purpose of guests getting irate, of course. Funny thread, btw.

I grant you that this site is genuinely bizarre (and in a climate where the word is so overused) - yes, you've succeeded in provoking this bored old sod (nope, not that old - still under 50) into a response - but the most intriguing thing by far is not the death factor. No, death happens. Death and taxes, etc. More people than you think realise this at a very young age. What has me wondering about this site is whether anyone avidly involved in the community here is actually of sound mind. Never mind sound physical health. Have I just happened upon the weirdest mental health "Deathlist" of folks since the "I love knitting for my hamsters" forum? I think so. I'd look around you warily if these are your greatest friends. It takes a lot for me to call people out as freaks...so feel proud...if that's the purpose. And remember - for all those suffering from physical conditions likely to limit their quality of life, you might require help yourself in the brain department. LOL. Such dark humour, I apologise.

I lost a young child suddenly six years ago...She was my life...yet I'm no more "gripped" by death now than I was before this sudden life-changing event happened (and it could happen to you!). I've gone through all the regular stages and thoughts and have found true acceptance - I've moved on from death - to the point that I'm willing to open myself up to a swift kicking from any "unknown quantity" on the Internet. Even a questionable site like this, where I'm sure there's the odd lucid follower, prepared to come up with some witty repartee.

It's very strange to be this pre-occupied. Predicting death is interesting for oooh, around 15 minutes - and then the richness of life takes over - and you open the door to your new ironing board cover and knitted twin-set for your hamster and you find more pleasure in that.

Thanks for reading. Happy New Year. Hope you get help soon!! I suppose I should go now.

Dear guest,

As a veteran (though irregular) visitor to this forum - I haven't been posting for about a year - I consider myself well-equipped to try and answer the questions that clearly haunt you about this site.

It seems that a quick glance was enough for you to classify all DL-posters as mentally insane. That's clearly unfair. Many of them might be a little bit... er... unusual while hiding behind their DL-aliases, but I suspect most of them to be as boring and mainstream as you and I. Perhaps a little bit better educated than average, perhaps a little bit more nerdy than average, perhaps a little bit more male-y than average, but probably less than half as flamboyant and weird as you'd imagine. Most of them seem to have plenty of time on their hands, just as you do, but hanging around here is not necessarily a bad thing to do with your spare time, is it? At least they're not roaming the streets, hanging around with criminals or looting London's shops. (Or at least I didn't... Anyone feels like confessing something?)

You lost a child, which is a tragedy that no-one here would make fun of. But I really don't feel it has anything to do with this site or with the morbid fascination of its visitors. In fact: I don't even believe that hanging around DL regularly indicates someone being intrigued by the big questions of life and death - all it points to is a certain sense of humour. We're not laughing at death, we're just mocking life. It's up to our realtime alter egos to celebrate it, and I have no doubt whatsoever that most of us succeed in doing so.

Best wishes,

Tomb raider.

Have I missed something? I can't remember a time anyone ever mentioned that the posters here were one's 'greatest friends', or that people are pre-occupied with this site - surely that would mean people were on it 24 hours a day? The amount of posts alone to ratio of members proves that isn't the case. Your 'arguments' are based on nothing.

Hello, 'Person whom quoted me' Number 1...to underline my opinion further: "If you're avidly involved in the community here" is what I said - Sure, there could be infrequent contributors on the periphery, with too much time on their hands, nothing better to do, who aren't totally insane. I question how long they could last, however...I could never feel "at home" here. Surely something more worthwhile comes along and....yawn, you're off. It's hard work when your heart's not in it...especially when it comes to defending a website. I know because I've been a part of some pretty wild forums. .And to clarify, I mentioned my loss as a contrast to those that might indeed be haunted by death when there's no clear pathway that led to that. A pre-occupation with death is not surprising when you've just suffered a tragic loss or are suffering yourself, but it's an odd thing when neither is the case. It's something I have dealt with, hence me using it liberally to prop up my opinion on a pretty trivial matter. I didn't check out much of the site because of my first impressions being that THAT bad. I don't want to further bother my head.

'Person whom quoted me' number 2: My arguments aren't based on much, I never claimed they were - it's more of a quick, overall opinion. I said "if these are your greatest friends". I didn't suggest absolutely everyone here were bussom-buddies. What you presume I assumed is not the case. There's probably plenty of in-fighting...or there would have been...when this site was in its heyday. I did note the dwindling lack of activity, but I wasn't going to say anything:- it felt a bit mean, and it isn't really relevant to the bung I have in my arse about the topic at hand. And do I sound bored of this or what>? Next subject: why do forums die a long and painful death? I have been there and felt that angst. Actually, that somewhat reminds me of a documentary I have 'Sky Plussed' about the death of stars. I'm talking 'supernovas'. It's by that quite clever Professor. I could watch that - before I appear to be needlessly trolling and breathing new life to this place. Something nobody could logically want!!

Very articulate point of view etc etc etc....

Wait a minute. Did you mention an "I love knitting for my hamsters" forum?

Please tell me more. You're so right about the dwindling lack of interest and then there's the boring posts about people dying who most of us never heard of or want to hear of. Tell me about it.

I came here years ago Googling something about George Best and people gave me stick and I gave them some stick back and then someone was really nice to me and I felt the lurv and, yes, you're right there are some real screwballs here and since I'm as mad as a hatter I feel right at home among them, or at least I did until I heard about the hamster knitting forum.

I had a hamster - three in fact, but they all died and, I'm ashamed to confess, I never knitted them so much as a pair of underpants. But I would have done had I been able to find a forum of genial hamsterwear enthusiasts. Please, please tell me where I can find it and take me away from this miserable place. I need help. My son told me I was a sicko and a weirdo at Christmas, the family regard me as an embarrassment; here they seem to tolerate me, for now at least. In fact it's a remarkably tolerant place and tolerance is a virtue is it not in this cynical world?

You're so right about everything. But you can't just come in here promising hamster outfitting heaven and then just wander off discarding us like an empty chocky wrapper. We need your help o knowing one. Give us a sign. Well a click through to the hamster knitting forum would do me, personally, but others may want something a little more profound. Not since the George Melly forum provided a little fleeting relief has anyone promised any kind of deliverance from this cesspit of degeneracy friendly little community.

Hi

for my 2p worth I find this place site has three qualities to it I find reassuring. Firstly in general there is a refreshing delight in the lives of those it reports, it is unusual that someone will not find something positive to say about someone who’s life has ended, unless said person are total scumbag, when it will generally be stated clearly! Secondly there is a healthy disrespect for the transient and shallow nature of modern "celebrity". Thirdly there is an equal delight in true achievement beyond the shallow nature of modern reporting. I don't find it so much a site obsessed with death as a place where life is enjoyed and celebrated (boy do I hate that term, anyone got a better one?). Now I will be off for a brief "no one expects the Spanish inquisition moment” as I have just re read my own wittering.

As a final comment I started visiting here while my father was coming to the end of his life, as he suffered the ravages of dementia. Personally I found this place very helpful in dealing with his death and my attitude to it.

Best regards

Syd

Hey there, your favourite troll from the '2012 list of trolls' is back for another few minutes.

Godot - lots of respectful backslaps to you for your hearty reply. I can sense your enormous relief at replying to a normal person at last. I have to say, you haven't changed one little bit! Hee heee....*evil, deadly grin* If only you'd put as much effort into Googling "Knitting for Hamsters" as you did feeding the troll, you'd have discovered that this website is not the only one punching well above its capabilities. Ok, I'll humour you - but only to brighten up this morbid, macabre, yet dull atmosphere (and you're all as bad as each other. I'm feeling much less tolerant today. Shame on you for being a member). Here you are:

Here's a disturbing snapshot, for all those who don't trust me.

ok, so i wasn't allowed to have hamsters as a child, but i've done my reading and i know they like bedding, read that tissues and paper towels and such are good, but NOT to use wool (like roving wool i take it) or fluffy cottons because it can clog their GI system and get stuck in their cheeks and feet... i was wanting to knit her a) a blanket and B) some kind of hamster hammock for the habitat.... does anyone know if this is just an all around bad idea or if maybe cotton yarn would be okay since it's not the fluff stuff she could easily eat or would acrylics be safe? anybody know?

And, let me present, "Hamsters in Hats": ~ Note their campaign against fluffy bedding ~ It's important.

So, sorry, buddy. You have been quite truly, literally and authentically compared to other freaks on the Internet (albeit in my own worrying mind). To confirm - so there can be no grey areas - I am saying that you lot are equally as scary as these fine exhibits and perfect comparitive material for the next freaky/nutty website I happen to wander into via Google's inadequacies...(and not my natural leanings because they are all borderline): "Hey, you weirdos, you'll never guess how weird you all are. You're as weird as this bunch of Celebrity Death Fans. No, really. I just hope you're still active and I'm not too late".

Syd - it's a shame that I've wasted a lot of my lunch break on Godot, as I feel you're the true brains of this outfit. Thanks for your post. It would all make sense except for one thing - if you look closely enough, you can find websites that uphold all of the worthy, satirical, irreverent, aspects of death, celebrity, etc, that don't endlessly have to scrape the bottom of the barrel (possibly out of desperation, possibly just to stir - who knows?). You see, once first impressions are that dire, you stretch your credibility, push away those with a hint of conscience and then the baying mob takes over. If it only feels interesting to be here when its purile, childlike or off-topic, then that creates a doomed paradox. To be fully immersed in an activity, you have to take seriously its main principles. Anyone seeking enlightenment and something a bit big and clever - as well as inane banality -- yes, we all seek a bit of that -- will shudder at what is generally disregarded by producing a carefully considered list, sitting back, and hoping...even making it a pastime...and then gleaming with joy, anticipating the banter, because they actually died. OMG, YAY!

Sorry, but for me to relax here, I'd have to feel I could wholly defend its vulgar intrinsics. This doesn't mean I couldn't otherwise (without prior imagining them dead) add to the topic of any renown individual passing away. And I do loathe a lot of celebrities...while standing in awe of many human achievements...Go humans!! Yes, I can see those sideline elements existing here; they are fine by me.

And so we've come full circle...and I'm bitterly disappointed in you all.
