Great facts on Wikipedia:

Quote

Tony was a talented musician and played keyboards for a Kajagoogoo tribute band called Kaja-who-who between 2004-2014 playing a farewell gig in the Rose and Crown in Little Hampton.

The info about his being in a Kajagoogoo tribute band was only added to his wiki entry in March by an anonymous user. It may well be true. But the cynic in me would probably want a little more corroboration.

Where is this 'Little Hampton' of which it speaks? There's a Littlehampton just along the coast from me, but google bing tells me that the Rose & Crown there closed in 1915 (I'm a cynic too).

Edit to add

Either the S*n has more information or its been reading the same wikipedia entry!

Amazing what you find when doing your research for 2020.

Geoffrey Kenion, who played PC Roberts in Dixon Of Dock Green and Det Con Fox in Fraud Squad, died way back in July 2020: https://www.majorcadailybulletin.com/news/local/2020/07/17/69791/rip-geoffrey-kenion-passes-aways-mallorca.html

As at the time of posting, IMDB still has him alive! Did a search and doesn't seem to have been reported here before.

Edit: Just checked Aveleyman too...still alive on there also.

Some cop/detective shows I've enjoyed:

Inspector Morse: By Colin Dexter (1930-2017), Inspector Morse's actor was John Thaw (1942-2002)

Lewis: Also by Dexter, Inspector Lewis's actor was Kevin Whately (b. 1951)

Beck: Swedish series created by Per Wahlöö (1926-1975) and Maj Sjöwall (1935-2020), Detective Martin Beck's current actor is Peter Haber (b. 1952). Other people who have played Martin Beck include Walter Matthau (1920-2000), Gösta Ekman (1939-2017) and Derek Jacobi (b. 1938)

Wallander: Created by Henning Mankell (1948-2015). Three different actors have played Kurt Wallander on TV: Rolf Lassgård (b. 1955) in the Swedish film series, Kenneth Branagh (b. 1960) in the British TV series and most notably Krister Henriksson (b. 1946) in the Swedish TV series.

Beck's neighbour's actor Ingvar Hirdwall (b. 1934) is starting to get old, but I hope he won't go anytime soon. Absolutely amazing in Beck.

Forgot to mention Mikael Persbrandt. Played the character (probably got the second largest amount of screen time after Haber) Gunvald Larsson in the show from 1997 to 2015, when he was kicked out for drug use. He was the "bad boy of Swedish cinema", fooling around and taking risks.

He has revealed that the early Beck movies were made while hungover or half-drunk. Persbrandt was addicted to cocaine for 23 years and also was an alcoholic during the same times and before, until around 2014 when he apparently stopped using drugs. He's also bipolar, could have gotten his life back on track now after the diagnosis but two decades of cocaine and alcohol use has probably taken off years from his life.

From early Beck villains, atleast Jan Malmsjö (1932-) and Lennart Hjulström (1938-2022) are still alive.

Just realised he's Jakob in Sex Education, in which he gets to shag Gillian Anderson, so he can die happy.

Appears to have been unreported here, but it was announced recently that Chris Ellison (The Bill's DI/DCI Burnside) has developed aphasia (cf Bruce Willis) following a stroke in 2020. There's video in the link from an appearance on Good Morning Britain.

I saw that in the papers a few days back.

I did a search on here but couldn't find anything.

I thought it best not to say owt rather than be told that there WAS a mention of him elsewhere etc etc.

Doesn't look good for him, does it.

Aye, saw a bit of it and he looked horrendous. Got a relative with post-stroke aphasia and its an utterly horrific form of dementia tbh.

Aphasia is not a form of dementia, although dementia patients also have difficulty with verbal communication (leading to none in the final stages).  Dementia affects the semantic (meaning/vocabulary) aspects of language, with the syntactic (sentence structure and word grammar) elements of language being relatively spared.  In contrast, aphasia usually affects both the semantic and syntactic elements of language.

Aphasia can range from a near-total inability to use or understand spoken and written language (global aphasia), which is devastating, to being able to speak fluently but having occasional difficulty with finding the right word (anomic aphasia) at the more mild end.  You can also have fluent aphasia where the person can speak in full sentences without struggle, and their speech sounds normal (if you ignore what they are saying), but what they say does not make sense, and their comprehension and ability to monitor their own speech is poor.

In general, aphasia will be worst in the early post-stroke period and then either gradually or dramatically improve.  In contrast, dementia only gets worse.

From viewing that interview, Chris Ellison has a non-fluent aphasia, and appears to struggle significantly with stringing words together and getting his words out (he probably also has a related condition, apraxia of speech).
