However, given when she was a young 'un, was talking about their favourite subject - I guess they were just geeking out as any kid would do (I was probably the same at that age talking about Doctor Who).

 

It didn't help the stock they were from though - spoiled and indulged.

tbh this particular case (chucked on live TV aged 10 after hot housing, then used for "celebrity" to make the family dosh, given quack therapy, and the resulting life of severe depression) I am quite willing to believe its another sad case of "fucked up for life by crap, crap parents".

Lauren is a long standing pick on the old DDP, in case this makes the news page there. 

 

If I'm honest, I'm amazed she has lasted this long. A lot of gender reassignment seems to me on balance to lead to an earlier than full span death.

 

Definitely fucked up in many ways. Dunno if it's time to get some publicity - I'm not sure she's had much coverage in recent years.

I must confess I now feel incredibly  ignorant- I had little idea who this person was and what their lifestyle etc is! Maybe I have been preoccupied with other areas of celebrity and fame but it appears  from this thread their very well known  but somehow they have largely passed me by!

Was originally a kid who showed up on Wogan at the age of 10 to talk antiques in a posh voice as a joke segment. (So had had years of training for that before hand.) Kept getting TV spots as a "child prodigy expert". Claims to have been bullied by their family from an early age over being too feminine. Turned out about 20 years ago their psychiatrist from early childhood was actually a fake name for their mum, who was pretending to be a councillor. As an early public trans person, has had a fairly regular media spot since but has always come across as someone mentally fucked over by their family who was still struggling to deal with it.

 

Like I said, crap parents. Treat a child like a test subject for your own money making and you are a shithead imo (to say nothing of the bullying/screwing over their health etc)...

What I find interesting as an aside is how attitudes have changed in the 30 plus years since.

 

Lauren (then James) wasn't indulged as a child by the general public - they found him odd, quirky and indeed somehow frightening. People tended to laugh at what they didn't understand.

 

Now look today and the recent past where Greta Thunberg and Malala Whatsherface are treated like fucking little goddesses to be listened to and indulged by the highest authorities. That's what I find odd - not a boy who loved his specialist subject who got fucked over by his parents, although Lauren was not necessarily faultless imo in that regard.

 

Anyway, it's all a bit of a shock that surgery has been involved and I wish no harm to her - hopefully we are not in Katie Keltie territory here.
