Gary Russell reporting death of dependable 60s/70s British character actor, Alan Bennion.

Yeah, Doctor Who villain (and non-villain, actually, multiple roles) hence Russell, but Z-Cars, Juliet Bravo, the usual suspects too, and a highly acclaimed stage career.

EDIT - He here in A Family at War, without the alien get up!

Bernard Hepton died on 27 July.  Thought this would have been posted already, but can't see it.

"Oh well, Bernard Hepton's still alive, better pick him!"

RIP forum reference

Brilliant actor, unjustly forgotten from the Tinker Tailor generation of character actors.

Appalling that he's not on the BBC News front page, and those bloody wrestlers are.

So who do we replace him with?

Glyn Houston is the oldest on my long list (b.1926) or there is Z-Cars stalwart Frank Windsor. John Woodvine and Bernard's Secret Army co-star Clifford Rose will both be 90 next year but Ian Holm has been rumoured to be in poor health.

Helen Burns, a British character actress who had sporadic roles on TV throughout the 1970s, 80s and into the mid 90s and who was married to director Michael Langham for over 60 years until his death in 2011, has died.  She was 101.

Funnily enough I watched her in The Changeling a couple of weeks ago and was surprised to see she was still alive
